How did your 2011 race season go?

How did everybody’s season go? This was a learning season for myself. I started running in April of 2010 ( I ran 1 mile on April 1 in 10:00 and thought I was dying, haha) so I’m fairly new at this and my times aren’t as low as I would like them. But that is everybody’s fight in multisports. This year I did my first triathlon (Nanticoke Sprint Tri) in April, later on in April I ran my PR 5K in 19:21. In June I did my first 70.3 at EagleMan in 5:37. I was happy with the time but upset with my run. In September I did my first 140.6 at ChesapeakeMan in 12:43 (or something like that). I learned a lot about my lack of nutrition knowledge in this race. Just this past Saturday I ran my first ultramarathon at the JFK 50. I finished in 10:07. It was a tough race but I had a great time. And now I’m celebrating my year with a few weeks off before ramping things up for next season. (This recovery is much needed as I’m still hobbling up and down stairs from the 50 mile run 2 days ago. My legs are still screaming at me) So overall, its been a great year. I learned a lot about myself and am looking forward to next year and competing at Ironman Florida. I’m hoping to sure up my run by really focusing on some good run training this off season. I’ll probably test myself out with a spring marathon.
How did everybody else’s seasons go? I love hearing all the stories, it really helps to keep me motivated.

Good job on your JFK finish and a great time for a first time! I do however have some bad news for you...JFK is considered an easy 50! (I'm a ten time finisher with a JFK PR of 9:23)
My season was quite ho hum. Goofy Challenge with my slowest times yet, then knee surgery, a re-build phase, a half in my slowest time ever but a six pack of centuries ( all in about 6 hours). A hand full of short races. No tri's, which i hope to remedy next year. Looking forward to a MUCH better 2012 and a robust schedule...

This is going to be a tough year to top.

In addition to all the local races, (11 total so far), I've traveled to Macon, GA to race a half ironman with my brother, Boston for the marathon, New Orleans for a triathlon, Iowa for the Hy-Vee 5i50 Championship, and I'm going to Cozumel later this week.

I think 2012 is going to be good year also :)

You had a busy year!

This was a great year for me. I did four tris this year, a bunch of road races and a 1/2 mary last Feb which was a PR. Also PR'd my 5K time a couple of weeks ago at 20:20. I still hope to break 20!

An October sprint brought a 3rd place AG finish which was nice. I also had a 2nd place AG finish in a local 5K which was pretty great. Also did (my first) IM Florida this year. Right now I am trying to relax but still not ready to let this season go.

Next year will be a February Marathon and several sprint and Oly tris with two HIMs. Looks like Gulf Coast Triathlon in May (which is mostly on the IMFL course) and then either Augusta in September or Amelia Man (in Jacksonville) in October. Finishing it off with Jacksonville Bank Marathon in Dec 2012. Between Tallahassee in Feb and Jacksonville in Dec I hope to BQ (but damn, they made it harder again!)

I'm looking forward to a good, fast year if all goes as planned.

Oh to be young...an assumption on my part! You had a busy, rewarding and impressive 18 months since your first mile! Congratulations and don't worry about those red marks on your body...those are from the "Endurance Bug" that has bitten you...often! I had a great year for a MOP 50-54 AG'r. Started with the Amica 5430 Sprint in Boulder where I had not trained in altitude and still felt good about my MOP finish. Did an HM in a PR of 1:42...Moved on to a local OLY where I finished in 2:31 and 14th overall (4th AG)...really good for me. From that a few road races and then finished in Des Moines, IA with the Hy-Vee 5150. The highlight was meeting Macca and Sarah Haskins...and watching all the PRO's race...WOW...now that was cool! Next year a few OLY's and my first HIM in Kansas....I just keep on Tri'n.

Had a great full year of racing. Did my first tri ever in August 2010. In 2011, I did 2 olys, several local sprints (including the same race that was my first- PR'd by almost 30 min), several half marathons, and my season culminated with Beach 2 Battleship half ironman. I'm running the Atlanta Thanksgiving day half this week, but just for fun, and a good excuse to eat everything Thursday night.

Looking forward to next year, although I'm thinking about doing fewer races as I got slightly burned out this year. My running friend and I decided to tackle our first full marathon, so we're looking over potential races. Definitely planning another 70.3, just don't know if it'll happen next year or not. More for financial/time constraint reasons than anything.

Hope everyone has happy holidays/offseason!

I signed up for a single 5k with a team through work, then got called into work that morning. Not the year I thought I would have after taking a new job and moving to So Cal from Chicago a year ago. Total running on the year is less than 300 miles so far, cycling a couple thousand, and not a single pool session (though have hit the waves a few times).

Next year is going to take a little more commitment.

I had a short season due to a hernia operation, but I was content with the marathon I ran in vermont and the HIM in Geneva, NY.

Next year, I plan on the Rev3 half in Middlebury, CT, plus a bunch of local sprints and olympic distance. I am kicking around Ironman UK for 2012, the year I hit 40.

Congratulations to everyone on their 2011 activities! 2011 was a great year and my second in triathlon. It started with a tri turned duathlon in May, which was an "educational" experience. I followed that up with a small local sprint in my hometown where I managed to finish 1st in my AG. In July I tackled my first Oly and got 2nd in my age group with a time of 2:26. I used my summer training to springboard into a Labor Day marathon, and with the hope of running under four hours, I managed to hang on for a 3:59:06 (Talk about cutting it close). That bested my previous marathon time by nearly 30 minutes. I've spent the fall doing some mountain biking, and the occasional long run. I'll finish up the year with a half-marathon next weekend. Without a doubt however, the best part of the year has been the fact that my brother started doing triathlons as well. We've had a lot of fun training and racing together. I look forward to more of that this coming year.
Next year I'm going to mix it up with some triathlons (including my first 70.3), several road races (perhaps a spring marathon), and I'd like to try a century ride as well. I can hardly wait!

Lots of great stuff in everyone's 2011! It was an.... interesting.... year for me.

I did no spring triathlons due to training for (and receiving my) black belt in karate in March. I also competed (and placed in) my first ever karate tournament, taking 3rd in my division in sparring and 4th in kata. It was a very different kind of training and competing, but exciting too.

In June I broke my arm, the same arm as 2010. So no summer triathlons for me and not much biking which is one of my summer joys.

The big exciting event I had planned was to swim across Crater Lake with my Masters group, a 6.4 swim in 55 - 58 degree water with no boat support allowed. I wasn't sure if I'd get to do it, but the arm held up (especially in a full-sleeve wetsuit) and we had an awesome time.

In September I did a solo 24 mile trail run around Waldo Lake through mostly wilderness, which was also gorgeous and in late September I finally got to do a sprint triathlon. This is my 25th year in the sport, I couldn't let the season go by without doing a race!

Looking forward to a more traditional triathlon season this year, with no broken bones!

I don't know Robin, but black belt and Crater Lake sound like a pretty good year, especially with the broken arm.
