It's Official - My Great Floridian IM Effort in Oct is Dead!

So, it has pretty much unfolded the past few weeks that racing this years Great Floridan IM is not something I'll be able to do.

I've had a great injury free build and now with less than 35 days til taper, unexpected expenses have pretty much stalled my financial ability to compete.

It's a shame that I've been training almost non-stop since last Oct building to a March HIM with the focus being a decent IM effort come Oct 23rd.

I'm still keeping up 90% of my training volume just in case, but I'm not real hopeful, unless a pile of $ drops out of the sky. I can't justify going and deeper into credit card debit as a full time student working 40+hrs AND training for an IM.

The race directors are gonna let me roll my race entry to next years event and said that my entry cost won't be affected if they have to slightly raise the $. So, that's a small bonus I guess.

I guess now I'll set my focus on Tough Mudder in Dec with a Jan Disney marathon and attempt to destroy my HIM time this coming March. Ever onward. Just thought I'd share.

That stinks, I'm sorry! That's great that you can roll your entry though, a lot of RD's would just say tough luck.

bummer! I'm holding out hope for that pile of money to fall on you :)

Bummer man, I know you were working so hard towards the event. Use those other events to build your experience for the day you crush your IM.

The long course seems such a challenge not only physical, but with every aspect of your life. (I'm not an IMer, but recognize the sacrifices it takes). I don't know that non-triathletes get that. I can't remember if this was going to be your first IM or not, but keep the goal alive, you will get there.

man... That's a tough pill to swallow.

I'm sure you already thought about bumming off friends, sleeping in the car, etc. Don't let all that training go to waste if you can't compete though. Find another local tri (Oly 0r 70.3) and crush it. You'll love it, instead of hating life.

Maybe do your own...?
No travel or race crowds but maybe the satisfaction Of following up your hard work with the reward of the race

Bummer man. But keep up the work and stay positive. Racing is definitely expensive, I've had to cut my racing way back over the last few years as well. Life has bills and you do what you have to do. If a pile falls at my front door I'll send some your way :)

We Often pay lip service around here to doing a fat ass IM or a "Nothingman" as Kona-expat calls them. Someone once mentioned doing a virtual IM. Bunch of folks doing an IM on their own on the same day.
I'm with tri-ac on this.
Do one on your own. Take some pics or movin' pictures tell us all about it and I'LL call it good! I'll even send you a hat!

that sucks man, if you end up racing next year's IMFL though my wife and I will be there racing do our first IMs!

I don't know how much money you're needing, but I was able to raise half of my buddy's entry fee (IM foundations slot) by using Facebook and the FundRazr app. It lets people donate online with a credit card and deposits directly into your paypal account. You'd be surprised how much people are willing to give.
I heard of another guy who printed business cards with a donation page listed so people could help him out here and there. It all adds up quickly.

Good luck!
