How I met krazyfranco, or "The Butterfly Effect"

The Butterfly Effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions, where a small change at one place in a nonlinear system can result in large differences to a later state. For example, the presence or absence of a butterfly flapping its wings could lead to creation or absence of a hurricane.

The Butterfly Effect on Trifuel: krazyfranco lives in Wisconsin. I live in Texas. We are two of hundreds who frequently comment on trifuel, and we're two of millions on facebook. Our companies, which conduct business in unrelated industries for unrelated clients, arrange our travel to the same city at the same time and book stays at adjacent hotels. I just so happen to run before work because I have a client dinner afterwards. I have no pre-planned route and just so happen to cut through a hotel parking lot. krazyfranco and his colleagues decide to leave at just the right time that we cross within 10' of each other. "Is that who I think it is?", he thinks . . .

Background: The company I work for is HQd in Dayton, Ohio, and I travel up there about once a quarter. krazyfranco and I connected on facebook through our activities on trifuel. He's noticed a few comments I've posted on Facebook re: Dayton-area restaurants or check-ins at the airport. He commented that he also occasionally travels to Dayton for work.

On Tuesday of this week, after finishing my run I ran through an adjacent hotel's parking lot and noticed two young 20-something men and a woman, professionally dressed, leaving the hotel to go to work, presumably. Nothing remarkable about that. Later that day I received a text from a number I didn't recognize. He said who he was, how he got my number (it's on my facebook profile) and that he was sure he saw me that AM. After a few more texts, we agreed to meet the next morning in his hotel's parking lot which was directly across the street from my hotel. We did a 40 minute run (speedwork for me; recovery for him).

So now I've met mwconstructs, jtrimom, paganopj, and krazyfranco.

that is so cool!

Very cool!

Projects: Trifuel.com, BASE Performance

it's a small world after all...

Excellent! And such a serendipitous encounter!

Outstanding....talk about a small world.

That's too cool. I could just imagine you walking down the street in Dayton and the following happens in front of a bunch of business people:

Krazyfranco- "Sooner is that you?"
Sooner- "Krazyfranco?"

both laugh, shake hands and chuckle.

Meanwhile all the business associates stand there and say to themselves "Sooner?, Krazyfranco?" . "Perhaps we don't know our friend as well as we thought".

Followed by awkward silence.

Love it!

What, no Ray Bradbury reference?

Very cool!

That's as down right random as it comes. How about that.

Probably won't happen here. Nobody comes to NC unless they lose a bet. :)

If I only get to meet GroovyJen, I'm satisfied. She's a nice gal.

The same goes for Atlanta. Whether fly or driving through, most people get out as quickly as possible.
