I'm 11 weeks away from The ChesapeakeMan 140.6, I just started swimming the full distance of 4000 meters in the pool, but have around 20 more 4000 meter or more (some up to 5K) workouts planned in the water. Tomorrow morning is an 80mile bike 10 mile run brick. When i did 80 miles 2 weeks ago i was a little tired going into it (i did some hill training on the bike the day before) and felt like i didnt get a ton accomplished. I got 2 swims in of 4000, and 3000 meters this week. My bike is average at best. At EagleMan i averaged 20.6 mph for the 56 miles, but my legs (maybe the heat had a play as well) were tired in the run and I only ran in an hour and 56 mins. The run is my event so i was pretty upset about my time. The question is should I skip tonights swim workout and just relax and rest up for tomorrow's brick? My swim isnt that great at all, i've only been swimming for 8 months, my EagleMan swim was 45 minutes, i dont plan on getting much faster going into chesapeakeman. I just want to survive the swim. I plan on going around 1:20-1:30. I have more bike rides planned, including a couple 90 milers and a couple 100 milers. The run, i'm not worried about. I know i will be in the best shape possible for that.
i must admit that part of me
i must admit that part of me just doesnt feel like doing the swim. i had to move my schedule around a lot this week and normally i get friday nights off. I think i'm dreading just hitting the water tonight, even though it's only a 2500 meter swim tonight.
Give yourself the night off.
Give yourself the night off. The last thing you should do is dread getting the workout in. You have time, plenty of workouts left, and many workouts in you already. Take the break, it will help in the long run.
Granted my longest race has
Granted my longest race has tri distance is 70.3, running is a 50k, I think that no matter the distance it pays to take a break before you break.
It's just a 2,500 swim. bag

+1 Bag it. You are right on schedule with a 4000 and a 3000 swim in already this week.
Focus on your big workout tomorrow.
See you in Cambridge in 11 weeks.

There is no way you will regret following through and completing the workout, but there is definitely a possibility you will regret NOT doing it. When I look back over my training logs I'm not thinking about all the runs/bikes/swims I had to push myself to start...I'm looking at the days that I skipped a workout and kicking myself in the ass for not getting out there and doing it.
Plus I doubt a 2500 m swim is going to affect your brick much.
