CdA still open!

Ok, IMCdA is still open and was curious why there are still openings. Is it worth racing? IMFL was sold out in about 3 hours last year, and I thought all the good races sold out that quick.

IMLP sold out in 8 minutes last year...

Ironman CDA is definitely worth doing. I did it the last two years, and it is an amazing venue and course. Coeur d'Alene is also an amazing place for a family vacation too once the race is done. Not sure why it does not fill up immediately, but it always fills up.

A big part of it is probably just the population base. The East Coast has a huge population base that are within easy driving and cheap flying distance of the big races there. CdA is literally in the middle of nowhere. It is a beautiful middle of nowhere though.

For me as a northwesterner, CdA is my closest Ironman, I consider it a relatively close drive, and it's almost 500 miles!

Because it's "hard". People want easy.

Oh, it's definitely worth racing. Probably the most scenic IM I've done. Most of the triathletes around here (east central Indiana) have not done the race, due to the travel (closest airport is Spokane, WA, then rent a car and drive the 30-40 miles to CdA) and hotel cost (all those I checked had a FIVE day minimum stay at at least $200 per night!). That may be why it takes awhile to sell out. Ended up being my most expensive IM, but we did make a vacation of it, going to Glacier, and then on to Canada after the race. You should consider doing it, despite the $, tho.

eh I dont know about that...if "hard" were the issue, then Canada and IMLP wouldnt sell out right away. I personally think it is becasuse of the location like Ironmom said, coupled with the fact its so early in the season for this part of the country. You would have to be slogging through freezing rain to get all your long rides in. Running in the cold rain for 3 hours and cycling for 6 hours are 2 totally different things. Add in the freaking cold lake and even I am still on the fence. Would love to do it, but dont really feel the need to torture myself to do it.

Like Sooner said "people want easy, not hard". That and the water temp this year was 55-57 degrees. Brrrrrr!

For that matter IMTX is still open as well. I think it has more to do with the WTC opening more venues combined with the fact that the general population now is becomming less enthusiastic about IM (they realized it is actually quite hard). I seriously doubt IMLP will sell out this year in a few minutes with 5,000+ slots now moved to IMNYC and IMMT.

Florida- will always sell out, because people want easy.

CdA is the one i'd like to do when the time comes

same here. Scheduled to do this one next year. Gotta figure out travel plans though because I want to spend some time afterwards traveling/ camping since I'll be relatively close to Yellowstone (as compared to Dallas).

It actually took IMFL 3-4 days to sell out this year. While I'll take the easy...I only live 2 hours away which made the decision for my first one a no-brainer. A friend of mine has family property on the beach so accommodations will be inexpensive and nice too.

CdA is on my list of races to do one day....anything to see the Pacific Northwest area. Too late and no $ for this year....
