Weird Race lengths/ formats

I recall recently talking about race distances and non-traditional races. I'd like to do some longer distance open water swimming coming up so I was browsing around and came across this one: 3.5mile swim, 30mile bike, 13.1mile run. It's like a HIM that got all mixed up with a bad crowd. I know some of you will like it, I think it's way cool.

That distance actually sounds pretty awesome to me, then again I'm a terrible biker so yeah.

For those of us who have really strong swims, I finally feel a little validation!

That sounds totally awesome!!! Sounds like a good distance to me, I supposed I would have to actually get a pool membership though. I love odd races!

My biking is lacking but I make up for it with swimming and this is the perfect race to test out this hypothesis, plus it's weighted the way I like it. I think everything should take about the same amount of time.

In Europe the 111 (pronounced one eleven I think its pronounced correct me if I'm wrong) distance is getting pretty big. 1K swim 100K bike and 10K run. It sounds like the run is easy, but guys still get close to their olympic run times in these races. The Abu Dhabi race is double this distance.

The new "Escape from Alcatraz" put on by enviornsports for 2011 will be

1.25 mile ocean swim
2 mile road run to your bike
13 mile bike ride accross the golden gate bridge
14 mile trail run along the double dipsea trail (prob close to 9,000 ft elevation +)

Ohhh that sounds totally down my alley. the Escape from Alcatraz is definitely on my wishlist.

that sounds like an awesome format! I would love to do a longer swim, the run is just right, and the bike sounds good too. I wish they had it in my neck of the woods :) have fun!

My area has the 5k run followed by 5k swim. Talk about a goofy distance. The run isn't long enough to have an impact on where you place. Goofy or not, I still do it because I'm a sucker!
