Felt B12 in a B16 suit

I won this auction on eBay.

But upon closer inspection of the pictures that the seller sent me it looks like this guy put 2009 B16 componentry on a B12 frame. I am a bit peeved especially since he specifically said, "Full Ultegra" in his auction.

That being said, I won the auction for $1226, which is an outstanding price for a 2009 B12, but is it that great of a deal with B16 conponentry?

What would you guys do in this case? I have not yet paid him.

Here are closeup pics that he sent me. Notice that way the bike is facing. I should have picked up on this prior to auction closing and am kicking myself for it.

A close look at those pictures shows:

- FSA Gossamer Cranks (instead of Ultegra)
- TTR-4 hubs (instead of TTR-3)
- Vittorio Pro tires (instead of Vittoria PRO Slick)
- Full B16 Cockpit
- B16 Red seat (B12 seat has white accents)

suggest a price reduction compatible with a % of the difference in cost of the components

I agree with tri-ac, go for a price reduction, its a decent price, but the comps on that bike should look like this

You could even go to ebay conflict resolution on this probably if this goes south.

He also said that it was supposed to have Ksyrium wheels. Total sketch. I'd contact ebay and bail.

also, FYI:

@raflopez - I read that article about 10 times already. ;)
@UFTriGator - I asked him about those before the auction closed and he gave me the choice. And offered to throw in the TTR's for an extra $100.
@triNick - I was aware of the recall and spoke to my LBS prior to bidding and they said they would take care of me if that bike was affected.

He just got back to me with the following.

My apologies, I thought my road bike AND the B12 were both Ultegra but looking closely the TT bike has a105 rear derailleur and presumably front derailluer, also 105 aero bar end shifters that have worked very well for me. The FSA crank IS a compact that I put on and the TT-4's are what came on the bike. I've attached pictures and for what its worth received an email from a guy who had been asking questions saying he would have paid a LOT more for the bike if he had known the very low mileage (assuming it had ultegra).

UPS said Bike box would be 53"x7"x30", insured to $1400 and will be $220 packing and shipping to Watertown, NY. extra wheel box would be 28"x28"x15" and would be $56 packing and shipping to Watertown. It's a great bike, please let me know your thoughts.

Best regards,

For sooooo many reasons I am going to bail on this. I thought I found my perfect first bike, but once again peoples true colours come through on flea-Bay.

Essentially, this is a B16 with exception of the B12 paint and decal. He is lying about not knowing that he had 105's on it as someone who knows what a compact crank is KNOWS what derailleurs he has on his bikes. His pictures were deceiving as he only posted one picture in the auction with the bike facing LEFT.
Also, the shipping in the in auction says $100 and he comes back with a $280 quote for shipping and handling.

I could go on but I won't. Thanks for the quick help guys. I guess I will keep looking.

Anyone here selling? lol

Generally it isn't good to bid on anything of value when a lister has less than 30 transactions. This lister had a zero feedback rating. That should help your claim with ebay.

@paganopj - I know better than that and I think I was bitten by the old saying "If it is too good to be true, then it probably is."

I am not new to eBay but I kept telling myself that I started with zero feedback, and that others deserve the same chance.

If he's putting cranks on the bike himself, trust me, he would know whether he installed a Shimano vs. an FSA Gossamer. That's like a $100+ difference in price.

Nice touch of sales pressure with that "received an email from a guy who had been asking questions saying he would have paid a LOT more for the bike " line in his email. Fine, sell it to him.

There is more than 1 perfect bike in the world for everyone, so be patient and you'll find yours.

You did the right thing walking away from this "deal". You can only wonder what else the seller is not telling you.

My thoughts exactly when this started to unravel.

Don't give up on ebay, though. I bought a used Ultegra Ridley Excalibur for $1800 on ebay a few years back and it has been nothing but awesome. I've used it at every ITU race I've done and ridden it for most of my training. It gives me less hassle and I like riding it more than any of the many tri bikes I've owned (including the $10k tri bike that I hate).

Matt is back! Now, is he racing again?

I just got back a couple weeks ago. No racing yet. I had my first swim since January yesterday. Actually, it was my second. I swam a 50 at a crappy military pool in Bahrain this summer because some sailor (a SAR swimmer) on my ship said he could beat me. Poor guy didn't know what he was getting himself into! LOL!

Just wanted to update this topic with my final result. I was patient and found a bike. Heck It may even be one of you guys that sold it on eBay!

Used 2008 Felt B2

That. is. sweet.

I must have the worst luck in the world. The seller just messaged me and told me he took it to the bike shop to get packed up and they found a crack at the seat collar. AHHHHHHH!

I know what i am thinking, what do you guys think based on this auction?

Looks like it was pulled, here is the description.

" You are bidding on a 2008 Felt B2. Bike is in good working order just raced In Ironman Wisconsin to a 5:23 bike split. Bike has been maintained my The Spin Zone bike store in Granger Indiana. Deraileurs shifters are oringinal but most other components have been upgraded. The Zipp Vuka bull areo bars and clip on extension were just in stalled Sept. 2010. All cables and housing were also replaced at that time. The zipp extension were cut to fit me and I have a 73 reach from finger tip to tip. The bars and brake levers alone will retail for more than $600.00 . You will notice in pictures there a spot on the top tube where the clear coat got chipped while in bike rack at IM Wisconsin, the integrity of the tube tube is 100% . It was examined by bike shop. Please feel free to call The Spin Zone to verify (574-234-4994). Pedals not included. The bike will be pack and shipped from bike shop. Good luck"

CRAIGSLIST.

Honestly, I know some people have good stories about good deals on ebay. I actually bought an $1800 guitar on ebay for about $750, and it has been awesome for the last 10 years. It still scares the crap out of me though, and I don't think I could do it again.

I'm just saying: this is God's way of telling you to give up on ebay.

Craigslist - Isn't really used in my area for TT/Tri bikes. I've looked.
Kijiji - Same

I am a bit bummed out as that was the perfect bike for me. I am sure another will come if I am patient and I do have time between now and next season.

I am really close to just going to my LBS and forking out for a bike with lesser components and going new...

Anyone here wanna sell their bike? LOL
