Ankle Strengthening Exercises

I'm training for a rocky run course and will be wearing road shoes (as opposed to trail shoes). Can you suggest some ankle strengthening exercises?

Balance on one foot. Balance on one foot and close your eyes. Stand on a foam noodle, on one foot, and balance. Toe raises with light weight, one foot at a time. Use a power band for resistance training...up, down, side to side. Buy a wobble board and go side to side, back to front. Stand on the edge of a step and lower your heels then go into a calf raise. Do this stuff bare foot.
See what you can learn from a PT after ankle surgery! My ankles are MUCH stronger now than before the surgery...

Also the good old writing the alphabet in the air with your toes. And the modified version: standing on tiptoes and writing the alphabet with your heels.
