This subject has probably been discussed many times, but I don't have the motivation to search for it right now, so I'm just posting and new one.
Still new to the sport and I am doing the Chicago sprint in 2 weeks. There is a 10K next Saturday I would like to run in 8 days before the tri. Any thoughts on if it is a good idea to run the 10K with 8 days of recovery before the next race? I didn't think it would be a problem, but wanted to get some input from those with a little more experience.

You shouldn't have an issue.
You shouldn't have an issue. I like stacking my races into groups of two or three. If you've properly prepared, you should be more than ready to go for the sprint.

+1 to AT. Honestly, there is only one way to find out if you're capable of doing the 10k and then doing the sprint the next week, and that is to do it.
You'll know after the sprint if it was a good idea or not.

If you have a good base, and a 10K isn't a big stretch for you, it should work towards your advantage.
