transition question
contact the race director and ask them. not sure how they will work it -c ould be spin bikes or your bike on a trainer. good luck and have fun
what I'm up to:
http://www.athletefocus.com/forum/sport/triathlon
It is an indoor tri 10 min swim, 10 min transition, 20 bike, 5 min transition 15 min run. I’m using this as a practice before the real deal in summer.
My guess would be . . .
10 min swim
10 min transition - change out of your suit and into riding clothes, find a spin bike and adjust it
20 min bike
5 min transition - change into running shoes, maybe change your shorts
15 min run
Oh, and this is nothing like the 'real deal' you will do in the summer :)
Yeah i know it will be nothing like the real deal. The real deal makes me nervous but i'm excited!
If i could i would sit and have a bbq during my transitions, but i never imagined i'd be there 10 minutes. 10 minutes is not so much a transition as a break between sports.
I'm not trying to make you feel bad, just thought it was funny.
Anywhoo... given the situation, here's my suggestion for making it a valuable practice for the real deal... treat it like a slow motion transition. In other words, try to set up everything as though it were the real deal and you were going to do it as fast as possible, for example, loosening the laces on your shoes ahead of time so you can slip your feet in. then on race day, transition efficiently, but slowly, and use the extra transition time to see what works and what does not work. My first tri i put my bike helmet on before my shirt, and could not get my shirt over my helmet. I had to take my helmet off and start over. This indoor race will give you the chance to learn things like that.
oh no I understand what you are saying I was really surprised when I saw there was that much time for transition. I do not even consider this to be a real triathlon. I have never done a tri before and I think it is a good starting point.
It's a very good starting point! Of course, it really isn't like a true outdoor tri, but so what?
I wouldn't worry about planning the transition to best approximate a real transition. With the time breaks you can get out of a wet suit and into dry bike shorts, and then out of the bike shorts into a comfortable pair of run shorts. You'd never do that in a regualr sprint tri, but so what? I'd be comfortable, have fun, and end knowing you can do the distances.
It's your first attempt, before your first real tri. You've got plenty of time to fine tune your transition skills, and would bet that losing a minute or two in transition is nt going to be your primary concern.
These are always great for practice as long as you plan for them and train.

I am doing my first tri next week Sunday. It is an indoor tri 10 min swim, 10 min transition, 20 bike, 5 min transition 15 min run. I’m using this as a practice before the real deal in summer. I am wondering how the transitions work since it is going to be indoors? I will be wearing a regular racing suite so I wont be able to wear my dry clothes underneath. I was also wondering about the spin bikes. Do we have to adjust them? or do we just pick one and go? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
