Okay, I am probably the *only* triathlete out there who ever obsesses (that's a lot of s's) about IM signup, so feel free to tell me to get a life, BUT my *normal* (read:non athletic) friends and family have heard enough of my obsession and couldn't really give a hoot, nor do they realize that if I get blocked out, I have to wait a WHOLE 'NOTHER YEAR for that race's signup :(
Anywho...yesterday, I watched (obsessively) at Florida's entry website (to see what I would be up against in 2 weeks for AZ's signup) It filled up in less than 3 hrs. I WILL be at my computer with my finger on the trigger when it opens up...but I guess since I have never "been there" to sign up online, I need to hear some positive stuff from people who have done it (the signup, not the IM).
oh, and going to this years race to sign up in person is NOT an option.

Two of my co-workers signed up for IMF yesterday (online) with no problems. I think they were pretty much online when it opened, but they had no issues.

No matter what you have the community spot option. Signing up online CAN be done. Last year I went to IMWI to volunteer and ensure registration only to find out that the guy next to me at the pre-race dinner (this year) registered on line. From what I've heard IMWI is the fastest to fill so there is definitely hope to be had for your registration for IMAZ. Good luck!

I registered online for IMFL yesterday with no problem. Okay, one small problem. I now have to TRAIN FOR AND DO AN IRONMAN! But signing up was easy ; ) I still think the economy is impacting people's decisions. Some of these races used to fill up immediately and now they are open for a few hours or even a few days. Get on Active right away and hopefully you won't have any problems. Do you have a back up race just in case?

Sorry, should have explained. Horribly Hilly Hundreds bike ride in Wisconsin. Not an IM but still usually sells out pretty quick.

When I signed up for IMAZ
When I signed up for IMAZ last year I had issues w/ the registration site hanging. It wasn't TOO bad, and I eventually got in, but it took several refreshes and maybe an hour tops to get it all done. Make sure you account for time zone differences. I thought for sure I missed it at first when I couldn't register, but ended up safe due to the difference in time zones.
should I wait to tell you
should I wait to tell you about the sign up for the NYC tri until after you successfully sign up for IMAZ?
if you are truely obsessing - i don't want to make it worse....
I have now signed up online
I have now signed up online for five Ironmans in the past seven years - Wisconsin 04, CdA '06, Germany '08, CdA '10, Florida '10. The "OMG! I won't be able to get in online! I have to be on site!" is a scam. If the race has online registration, you'll get in. Yesterday it took me one click to get into Florida and I was registerd within :90 seconds (FWIW, with all the BS fees, IM Florida was $588).
Start your obsessive refresh
Start your obsessive refresh screen about five minutes before the registration officially opens. Last year NYC opened at 12:00 11/1, but I actually was finished registering at 11:57 because of my obsessive refreshing.

Wow, Toni, I didn't realize you were going whole hog next year! good for you!
My possible back up races...or not, are the Rev3 in Sandusky in Sept., but I'm hesitating b/c it's the race's 1st year. OR IMCoz, but I'm hesitating there b/c I don't know if I want to deal with the water/health issues in Mexico at the same time as I'm dealing with IM.
So AZ would be ideal. If I get shut out, then I'll have to have another conversation with hubby to see what would work. I only got an okay (as a preference) for AZ b/c I said we could go to Las Vegas to visit his brother for Thanksgiving (after the race)

I like that. I am going to go with it and keep repeating it to myself for the next 2 weeks and 20 minutes. (when registration is officially supposed to open)

Send your luck my way :)

Reassurance:
I spent a week in Cozumel & then a week on the mainland in Playa and Cancun and did not experience Montezuma's Revenge. The tapwater in Cancun is advertised as safe, unlike many other places in Mexico.
I found the Pacific coast more of a problem than the Caribbean coast.
Good luck with the registration. I am rooting for your success.

Tee-hee. I was thinking it was a salute to the New York Islanders:

but the Groton's guy is a better match color-wise.

I was planning IMFL for 2011, but I just found out a small group of people from my church are doing 2010 and they invited me to train with them. After all this solo training, it just sounded so great to have some company, that I reconsidered. And then my husband just kept saying "go for it!" So before I knew it, I was signed up. I am alternately thrilled and scared. No doubt I will be glued to Trifuel with questions for the next 12 months. IMcoz was my first choice, but it's always Thanksgiving weekend. Travel from the northeast at that time of year is a nightmare and with four kids? Well, you know what I mean. I can't leave them with a sitter for Thanksgiving, and I can't afford to fly them all to Cozumel over an expensive holiday weekend. Why don't you come on down to Florida and race along side, er I mean way in front of me????

uh...tooo late now:( it's sold out. I had thoughts of signing up, especially after I saw TriSooner's post on FB that he signed up, but AZ just worked for our Thanksgiving plans (see above post) best, and I didn't want to mess with that, soooo...now I'm obsessing

ya , IM Louisville is still open too, but I would have to be very desperate to sign up for that and get myself into peak training through the hot Houston summer (I haven't completely ruled it out...desperate times, and all that :)

I've heard lots of good stuff about the Rev3 races. If I didn't have to train in this heatbox known as the deep south, I'd be signed up for that one already.
Not that I doubt what PoC said, but I wouldn't drink the tap water in Cozumel.
http://www.cozumelmycozumel.com/Pages/Health&Safety.htm
However, I am going there in a few weeks, and I'm confident that the island would not have so many visitors if the health/water issues were more serious than other places.
If you don't make IMAZ, you'll still find a great race. Good luck.

okay, I asked my husband if he would block out that time on his calendar at his office so we could be online together at registration time. If I have trouble getting thru, I will tell him to press his button. He thinks I'm nuts, but he's a trooper :)

Whoo Hoo! I can hardly wait to get started. My 36 weeks starts March 1st so you'll start on March 14th? Should be a fun year!
congratulations! It's funny
congratulations!
It's funny - i couldn't remember when your sign up was and i just came on now to see when... so I missed "it" by a day....
so - now that you are "safe" i will tell you what happened to us...
husband and I are excited to sign up for NYC tri. On Nov 1st at 12:00am..
He has done it twice prior. Me never. Last summer's races were somewhat in preparation for this race as i had really wanted to do it for several years... but didn't want to make it my first.
Last years race sold out in 22 mins.
this year like two days before i get an email at 11:47 pm (after i was sleeping) that since i was a USAT member i could sign up NOW type of thing.... So at 6 am i see the email - immediately try - and those spots were gone.....
so at 11:50 Oct 31 husband and i are ready. credit card out, etc..... we are each at our own computers.....
we keep trying to get through can can't get thru. Finally i did - do the whole looong process and get confirmation at 12:07. husband gets thru - but never seems to get the thing confirmed.... he doesn't get in.
next day i check - event sold out in 7 minutes...
if that was the "race" to just get in to the thing.........

Uggghhh! That's how I felt! more stressed than actually going into a race (of course, there was no 'tapering' to calm myself ;)
But apparently, IMAZ sold out in less than 25 min online, so, whew!
Thanks for not telling me your horror story till I got in...it would definitely have freaked me out more than I was
yeah wouldn't do that to
yeah wouldn't do that to you... because i am the same way too.
25 minutes! that's really tight.
i know that there are more people doing "tri" now but if the sell out time is shortened it makes me wonder if the competition will be stiffer which leads me to justify getting a new bike so i at least look like i am supposed to be there...... that and my road bike is 13 years old. can you tell i am convincing myself it's okay to spend money on a bike? :)
