Wetsuit Winter Storage

I've already done a quick google search of this and a search on here and haven't really gotten a great answer so I was wondering what you guys do to store your wetsuit over the winter. I've already washed it with wetsuit soap and it's hanging in my closet right now on a thick padded hanger. Should I do anything special to it so that it doesn't have any ill effects from not being used? I live in chicago so it won't see the water till may at the earliest.

I do need to address a little bit of wear along a seam, it looks like just normal wear and tear not really a big problem. Does anyone have advice on a good glue to use and the best way to take care of something small like that?

Thanks everyone

I live in Chicago suburbs and during the winter i put my wetsuit back in the box that it came in. That's how it is stored at the shops anyway. Also i contacted Emilio De Soto about this question and he said the same thing. Also he recommended to put the wetsuit in a water a couple weeks before your first swim next year.
Sorry can't help you with any glue ideas, when i had a problem with mine i sent it back to De Soto and they fixed it. But i think there is some glue you can use for neoprene.

Rubber cement. Most tri shops sell it in black so it matches, but I can't imagine it's any different that what you'd get at Lowe's or anywhere else.

I don't think you're supposed to leave it on the hanger. Just fold it up & put it somewhere safe. The box is a good idea, if you still have it.

Any box will do as long as it fits. I actually put mine in a plastic bag that is sealable so nothing gets into it such as mice, roaches, bugs etc, then I put it inot a box and keep it out of the sunlight.

Xterra suggests that you fold your suit and do not store it by hanging.

I just started using my wetsuit last week. The water in my pool is getting cold.

In the summer when I don't use the wetsuit, I fold it up and put it in the mesh bag it came with.

I found that the outer latex skin can adhere to itself when left folded. Sometimes it's slightly tacky so I can separate the two surfaces but sometimes it'll be really bonded. I've started using a little talcum powder on the outer skin to prevent sticking.

I've found that leaving a wetsuit folded for an extended period of time can crease the suit material and leave it weak to tearing in that spot. Storing it laid out flat will alleviate that problem. A good place is under your bed :P

After washing with wetsuit shampoo, be sure the suit is dry and have it vacuum sealed- some drycleaners will do this for you. Dry air is the enemy here- especially in the cold winter months.
