Inflating tube on disc wheel?

Apparently some of what I don't know is worth knowing because I don't know how to inflate my tube on a disc. (There! I admitted I don't know some things. Bookmark it.) I rented a clincher disc wheel/808 set for Ironman Longhorn (I’ll write a ‘consumer report’ on RaceDayWheels.com after I return the wheels, but so far/so good). Since I got the wheels earlier than planned, I took them out for a ride yesterday (sssshhh, I don’t think I was supposed to do that).

So I went to inflate the tube on the disc and my pump head won’t fit into the slot on the wheel 'cover'. My solution was to go with a C02 because the chuck fit – which is good to know if I flat on race day - and I felt like a baller airing up my tubes with cartridges for a coffee shop ride. (Yes, I rode around town on a disc. I know this is a tool move, but I paid $200 to rent 'em for one race and dammit I was going to enjoy them.) But for rides this week I’d rather not burn through C02 just for kicks.

In the crappy iPhone pic below, isn’t that a standard floor pump head size with both presta and shraeder? I imagine I could go to my LBS and buy a presta-only pump which may fit, but I’d rather not. I'm sure it would be Italian made and cost way more than a box of C02s. It’s not a big deal since I’ll only have them a few more days, but on race day when I inflate, should I just go with the C02 or find a pump head that fits?

HED sells a little pump attachment that works pretty well for airing up my tri spokes.
I can't for the life of me remember where I got it or how much it was, and I don't know what it's called (I call it my crack pipe) ........ because of the shape. but it works perfectly. My only complaint is you have to hold it onto the valve while airing, it doesn't have the ability to lock on...so airing up disks and tri spokes is a two person job.

Oh yeah, if you respond you can't attach images. I upload the pic to a free hosting sight (www.photobucket.com) and paste the URL of image into the response. Which is what is shown in the image code below. I'm a nerd so this isn't exactly hard, but the actual instructions are also located in the BBCode link I highlighted also.

That IS a crack pipe. I can see getting pulled over by the cops, having that in my pocket, and getting busted for drug paraphernalia. "No, really officer. It's for inflating my disc wheel. See, I rented some wheels and the valve access hole was . . . never mind. It's a one-hitter."

ha ha ha ha ...they would swab for residue, and hopefully (if you've been inflating what you were supposed to with it) you would be fine. Nice set up you have there, thought you had a Softie TT though..... confusion sets in. I'm assuming you rented the front as well?

Thanks, the Softride now hangs on my wall as an homage/shrine. I switched back to a road bike. And yes, I rented both the disc and 808. Brand new they'd be in the $3,000 neighborhood but as I indicated, I paid about $200 to have them for a week +.

Trisooner, that is what it is called, a peace pipe or a crack pipe. Any good bike mechaninic will know what it is about. And yes, just buy one for you own use. Saves you haveing to locate one on you next wheel rental.

Also check the box the disk came in, you might find one inside. All the discs I have rented came with the aformentioned pipe.
