Pregnant running - question for moms

Ok, moms. Very excited that today was baby's first 10K. But ended up walking a lot of it feeling pressure/tightness in my lower abs. Since then I've felt her kicking all day, so husband and friends are all sure that it's just muscular tightness (heck, I haven't done core work in months, etc...) frankly from the ab muscles being out-of-shape and then really called into use today.

When you were running later in your pregnancy did your abs get tired or sore? thanks!

Disclaimer: I never ran during my pregnancies...BUT I walked daily and at the end of my 1st pregnancy, I felt what you are describing while I was walking: "pressure in my lower abs"...that was contractions. Nothing major, nothing painful, I carried my babies to term, but just fyi

SORRY! didn't mean to worry you, but contractions- not going into labor, braxton hicks. It's normal, but my dr. said to monitor the activity level and slow down/stop till they go away.

I ran until about 6 months, then it got too uncomfortable so I switched to walking and swimming. I swam all the way up until going into labor. Swimming RULES when you're pregnant, especially at the end when your belly is pretty well loaded with baby!

I never had those kind of contractions like you had until the very end of my pregnancy. If the contractions make you nervous or your doctor thinks it's a good idea to lay off running, there's always swimming. Weightless, gorgeous swimming! Also indoor biking, another good exercise.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

A lot of pregnant women will have round ligament pain....it"s the ligament that holds the uterus to the abdominal wall. Completely normal even if you aren't walking or running. It's lower on the abdomen on either side of the belly. A maternity belt might help...it helps to support the lower abdomen and it also takes the pressure off your back.
