Have a question about blood pressure....
Hello there:
Low BP readings is particulary common among athletes. Resting pulse is also a pretty normal reading for athletes.
Take in consideration, that BP, heart rate and such are part of the systems that your body excercise when you do your training or racing. So the better trained you are, the more efficient your pump will be, your endothelium (linning of your blood vessels) and blood flow.
Also take in consideration that your heart as any other muscle gets stronger as you get fitter from your training, so in general the whole machinery works more efficiently, giving you low readings.
Most important is, that if you have low readings, and you don´t have any symptoms, like light headness, profuse sweating, syncope and such...you are just another endurance athlete who is becoming fitter.
Have a great day!

Welllll, I am 5' 10" and tip the scale at 148 lbs. As I sit at my desk Im 115/70 with 63BPM. Resting heart rate when I wake up is around 53-54 and my BP doesnt jump around hardly at all, I think its been close to the same for the last 8 months. Im not sure if the blood pressure has a direct corralation to the heart rate but I would imagine it does affect it somewhat. The more you an learn about yourself though the better.

It's not quite that easy, but yes there is a relationship being that your heart increases your blood pressure so that it will flow. My pulse is reasonably low (mid 50's resting on a typical day) but my BP is a little high about 130/80 but I don't think I'll tip over any time soon. Knowing your heart rate won't tell you much of anything about your BP, unless of course your HR is 0, in which case your BP is also 0. Let's hope that isn't the case.
BP and HR are related but are not a couse or effect directly.
Both readings..BP and HR are usually low among athletes.
Besides, the younger the subject, the more probably BP will be lower.

Thx guys, I was just wondering. Like cadenceguy says...."the more you know about yourself though the better" I couldn't agree more. I just wanted to see what more experienced guys had to say. I appreciate it!

Last time I went to donate blood, they would not let me because they were scared of my bp. If I remember right it was 89/49 (which is fairly norm it might go up 5 or so on each)
If my bp was ever 120/80 or what ever the "norm" is I would be worried (or maybe doing intervals)

I seem to have low blood pressure. My nurse liked to fall over this last time when she took it. She was asking me if I was weak or feeling dizzy? Well, I was feeling perfectly fine. My reading was 93/51. My doc said that it's ok since I'm active. I was just wondering from an athlete's point of view what are some of yalls and what are yalls heart rates?? I ordered a heart rate monitor and need to get a good range on that. Since I have LBP does that matter what my HR is, resting and max?? Thanks in advance!!!
