REV Iron distance race in Sandusky, OH 9/12/10?
I haven't raced their events, but from everything I hear they are top notch...comparable to IMs and draw big name pros. The biggest thing they have going for them, IMO, is that they plan their events at/near theme parks...keeping in mind the whole family, not just the racer.
I wasn't aware they cost the same as the official IM races, but am not too suprised. I'm sure there may be a hiccup or 2 with it being a first year event, but already know of quite a few people in the Cincinnati area that will be opting for Rev3 (~4hr drive) next year instead of IM Lou (~1.5 hr drive). I think a little competition b/w long course tri offerings can be good for all of us participants.
I am doing there Half Rev next season and have heard nothing but good things. They are run by Heather Gollnick so with her imput about IM's how can they go wrong. Also look at the list of pros attending the events, it is a pretty solid list.
Other than the fact that the race falls under the "Ironman" logo do they warrant a higher race entry fee? as long as a race provides the same amount of aid stations and professionalism should they not charge the same as a IM? seems to me all you are paying for is the name. That being said I will be doing the Rev3 and Syracuse 70.3 next season and will be able to compare the two events. (both cost the same)
The prize money is insane at these races, not a reason to enter a race, but it helps bring in a lot of pros. My dad did the half this past summer and won his age group, he received many prizes including a free pair of k-swiss running shoes, and a 150 cannondale gift certificate. I was a bit skeptical of the prices when I saw it, about the same as IM and 70.3 races, but the quality of the half was equal to if not better in some aspects as and IM branded event. Not sure how a full distance race would be, but if they pull it off next year it looks like the IM brand may have some serious competition in the future, especially if they are able to keep the prize money as high as it is.
I am in for the 1/2, as of now. Have you seen the bike and run elevations(lack there of;)? I love swimming in Lake Erie and like that they have a back up swim plan, so there shouldn't be a du if the chop/waves start( see the swim map.) It also helps that my in laws live 20 min. from Cedar Pt. and I won't have to spring for a hotel:) This race is all good for me. The Buckupnorth will be home:)

D'ya think they can get LeBron to show up for the race?
That would raise awareness. He's from nr. Sandusky.

Orlando Pace is from Sandusky, but LeBron is from Akron.
I've read a race report from someone that did a Rev3 race, but I don't recall where. Sounds like it will be a nice race. I'm thinking about going back to Ohio to do the one in Sandusky.
Didn't I read that Lebron had a summer job once at Cedar Point?
You from around there?

My baby is due in early February. We have family in NE Ohio, and I'm sorely tempted to make the Half a goal "come back" race to get my butt in shape post-baby. Seven months seems do-able to get back to a point where I can finish, not necessarily with a PR but at least finish.
Moms -- am I nuts? Is that reasonable or am I showing my first-time parent naivete?

I don't think it's completely unreasonable...IF you are happy with a "just finish" goal, AND you have help and support of spouse/parents/babysitters for the longer workouts. Also, I guess it depends how long and to what extent you plan on breastfeeding. I was the sole nutrition source for my babies till they were 6 mo. and they wanted to nurse every 2-3 hrs. When they started solid food, I had a LITLLE more freedom, but they still were very dependent on my milk till about 8 months....so, it would be tough to make the decision until you are in the situation and know how much time/freedom/independence you will have.

Cedar Point ROCKS! Its still my all-time fav amusement/coaster park, with the Top Thrill Dragster being #1.
Wait, your post was about a race or something...??? :)

My friend just finished WI IM 7weeks after having her baby...so doable. She rode spin bikes, did some swimming, but ended up walking the whole marathon. She did it in 15hrs so I think you can do it!!!
I would like to do the Full distance race. However I feel it may be mess ticket wise. The race fee includes two tickets. I am trying to find out from Rev3 if the tickets have to be used for the race and if the actual participant has to use a ticket into Cedar point. The finish is in the park so I believe any family/friends wanting to watch will have to have admission into the park. If so could be a expensive day for everyone with having park tickets

Not sure if Lebron worked there for a summer, but my friend did. I lived in the Northern Ohio area for 30+ years, but always an hour or two from Cedar Point. However, my wife grew up less than 10 miles from it.
I haven't done a Rev3 event- but I am eyeballing the Cedar Point race for next year. While the entry is pricey- it does include theme park admission for 2, so that kinds offsets about $90 there.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Any body ever race this company's other Half IRON distance or olympic before. The website is pretty cool and this is there first full IRON race they are putting on next year with a total purse of like $250,000! Entry fee is $550 which is pretty pricy for a non- M. race don't you think?
Anyone know what there events are like?
