Nyfan21's IMOO 2009 RR
Awesome job, ironman. It was a suprisingly tough day on the course for lots of people, and you powered through it. Congratulations.
That's an Ironman diet. Love it. Glad I wasn't in the car with you. Madison is so much hardier (because of the up-and-down/technical ride) than most people think.
Congratulations! Your nutrition plan worked if you felt strong on the run. Having only one dark spot is amazing.

Congrats!!
Nice work out there!
Lol, loved the "don't get cocky", I think we all have to give ourselves a reality check at that distance. It's nice to to be able to say it and listen then allow temptation to overcome you and be humbled.
I would have paid my mom to say "HTFU", all I got was "harden up" - she's not much one for swearing, I'll take what I can get.
Smile - it does a body good :)
Great pictures too! Really glad you had an enjoyable experience. You put a lot of hard work and dedication into your training and it paid off.

Great RR report...loved the pre race TMI.
It sounds like you did great out there- congratulations Ironman!
Taper Naked
Great job. I'm glad the 36 week plan on here worked out for you. And partying on Thursday night? I guess we'll call that a technique for IM prep :)
Checking your ego when it gets too cocky and pulling it out of the gutter when it hits the "dark spots" is all part of IM.
Great job and glad to hear that there will be another IM in your future.

Road trip, yah! The food and drinks sound much better than the airlines, nice foamy carb loading ;)
WI is a great first. Congrats on a well run race Ironman.
PJT- too bad we didn't get a chance to meet up; btw you killed that IM. Damn bro.
TriSooner- I now need to stop eating crappy food of fear of gaining too much weight
gfd- Thx I got my nutrition plan from a few people on Trifuel like Kat and PJT and Trisooner
RV - thx good luck in 2010
KitKat- thx for the kind words; yeah my dad is a military guy...lol
jtrimom -I love the way that sounds "Ironman" lol
zagfan- Yeah the drinks probably werent a good idea since I was sharing a drink with a girl that was diagnosed with Swine Flu a week early (didnt know that until the end of the night!)
It's funny that I know what you mean by the Fish Bowl. That's a famous drink for a bar here in town. You did great!! Sure I saw you come over the finish line. Too bad I didn't know it was a Trifueler!! I was finish line timing from 6-9 and it was awesome!
Congrats Bro! Love the pre-race report. From the read of it I initially thought you and your buddy were driving down there to sign-up for next year's event. I would have never thought you would be fueling your body like that 2 days before! So much for the technical nutrition plan.
Gotta get this race on my list for 2011!
Pain is weakness leaving the body.
tmhagen- that's cool that you saw me finish I was in black during the run with white compression socks.
jarhead- I would actually do this one again it was so much fun; even the hills werent bad cause it made the time fly by.

Nyfan21 Ironman Wisconsin RR
(It’s long) (This IM was dedicated to my mother that lost her battle to Breast Cancer 2 years ago, I wrote her initals on my arms)
So I used the 36 week training program off of Trifuel (Thx BTW), I decided to do IMOO cause it was the 1st IM I got into not knowing the hills. I signed up with a buddy here in Boston; we decided to drive out starting Wednesday after work, it took us about 18 hours to make it from Boston to Madison; I had way too much junk food on the way out there; beers/burgers/red meat/bag of gummi’s. I had really bad gas (I wonder why) in the car ride out to Madison. We arrived in Madison on Thursday night and I was tired of being in the car we stay West of Madison about 4 miles away; we went into town and the first college kids I saw I asked for the nearest bar; had way too many drinks and something called a Fish Bowl; went to bed around 3 am. Woke up the next morning and did my weigh-in and registration and then had the athlete dinner on Friday. The next morning Saturday I did my bike rack check-in and bag check-in and was just tying up loose ends; I had 5 more family members come-in. Saturday night I couldn’t sleep at all. (BTW I had the squirts for 2 days straight along with the morning of my 1st IM)
Sunday morning:
Pre Race meal 2 ensures 500 cal, 1 Power bar 200 cal and 1 bottle of infinit 300 cal, 20 pepto pills…
Swim:
My strategy to swim the swim so smooth that when I exited the water I wanted to feel like I never swam; I started way in the back and when the cannon went off I began the fighting; never got kicked in the stomach like that before or hit in the head like that before; the water was a little green but overall I felt great; I got out of the water feeling 100%
Swim time: 1:31 (not the best but I felt great and that was all that mattered)
I stripped of the wetsuit myself and ran up the helix and went into the changing area to put on my biking gear I got out and got sun lotion and I heard my # yelled out “642” and they brought my bike to me and I had my mothers necklace on my bike and when they gave me my bike I tear up a little while they handed me my necklace.
Bike:
The bike was hilly..did I say hilly? I knew it wasn’t flat but damn. And it was technical (at least for me) I wanted to do the 1st loop without getting out of the saddle and the second loop I just wanted to smile. My strategy worked the spectators that lined the hills laughed and yelled me up the hardest parts and I talked to a few riders on the way. (some signs “Ironman are Sexy” “Free Sex on the second loop”, oddly enough there was no free sex on the second loop, they lied only more hills) I eat 2 Powerbars 600 Cal, 3 bottles of Infint 900 Cal, 4 gels 400 cal and 10 Gu blocks 200 Cal, right on my target; I knew that if I just relaxed I would be ok (I wrote Smile on my left hand and Relax on my right; hey its not original but it worked )
Bike Time: 6:42
I got off the bike and I had to pee so bad I thought I was going to burst I never peed the whole 6:42..Stupid..I went into the changing area and the volunteers are angels they helped me change and directed me to the bathroom.
Run:
I started the Marathon with a smile and I felted oddly “fresh” I didn’t bring any food on the run I was just going to walk each aid station and eat a few things at each. I felt so strong and I was smiling and laughing with people and talking to everyone then mile 16 came; I never knew what people meant by “dark spots” but now I understand I felt like I was going to faint; so I walked up the hills and regained my composure by drinking chicken broth; I felt like I was low on sodium. I started to run and I saw my dad and he said “HTFU” and I was back in the zone; I hit mile 18 and I asked a guy next to me lets run together, we ran together for a few miles then he fell off I saw mile 20; I said to myself “don’t get cocky” then I started to run with another guy then mile 22 hit then mile 24 hit I started to see the signs “Your Irondreams are a reality!” I started to get chills and tear up again then I said F’it I’m going to run I must have ran that last 2.5 miles because I was passing people left and right then out of respect like a marching band 5 of us without moving positions or talking ran down the shute; once I heard my name at 13:18:18 I have to say I will never forget that.
Run: time 4:45
Total: 13:18:18
(Note-I strongly advise anyone to do IMWI the locals/volunteers are like angels, I would do this course again just for the people) I want to thank all of my Trifuelers for help with everything! You guys are the best; If I was to say this is my 1st and last IM I would be lying!
