For most of us tri racing season is over, not to say that we are ending our endless swims and rides.
Running season is in! So what running races are you doing?
My races:
Columbus, OH Marathon
Fall 50 in Door County
Goofy Challenge
Applefest Half marathon (NH)
Down and Dirty Duathlon
Scituate Duathlon (as a relay with the fiance)
Bimblers bluff 50K (CT)
Boston Firefighters 10k
Edaville Railroad 10k
Then back to the gym to keep the muscles from going away too much until Jan 1 when HIM training starts
I'm pondering the Seattle Marathon.
I may run in something barely there and obscene for the annual Jingle Bell 5k - and attempt to race it. This should be highly amusing since I haven't worked on speed ALL YEAR my HR hates to go above 160
I also intend on running my age on my bday in Dec along our Wildwood Trail in Forest Park.
Feb will bring my first offical Ultra
Waiting for snow and waxing my skate skis until they start to carry a conversation with me. ;) I jump into community races but typically don't plan many events for my winter season.
Running season? Nah. Psycho-cross season. 2 races coming up this Sunday, and my bike isn't yet complete... still need to pick up a few parts, and may run some cables... Can't wait. Then 9 more weekends of racing through December.
I've got a blistering fast 10k on the schedule that I haven't run in 9 years. 1st mile is completely downhill to a canal tow path, then 5 miles of dead flat. I may toss in an XC running race or two, 3 mile turkey trot on Thanksgiving, and perhaps a beer mile somewhere in the mix.
Kat, you running your age mileage on your birthday?
sounds like a good idea, for me it will be 32miles in December i might try to tackle that.
[/quote]
Yes sir, supposed to run 29 miles but the trail is 30.2, so I may just end up doing the whole thing. I figure running my age is better then getting so drunk I don't remember my own age.
What date is your bday? Dec bdays suck - combined presents :(

Dec 17th, if we lived closer and I was faster we could run together :)
My tri season is not over. Big Kahuna was moved to October 25. I feel like I've training for ever and I can't wait to race the halfIM distance. After that CIM (california International Marathon) in December 6 and hoping to qualify to Boston.
Contemplating a fall xc series just for the fun of it. Considering the 5k I did last week was a whopping 7 min slower than my pr, it will be a winter to rebuild fitness after my junior/senior year slump. I can't take running too seriously anyways because I just get injured (naturally horrible biomechanics), hence triathlon.
panchotri, let me know if you get in. I think we are from the same area (only guessing since you are also doing kahuna and that is just doing hwy1 from me). I'm doing the big sur 1/2 nov 15th (?) for my premarathon run.
This is my favorite time of year: cool crisp mornings, trees glowing with fall color, easy breezes, the first frost and the even the days when the cold takes your breath away. I could live without the snow and ice though, but I guess it's part of the package-- throw on the screw shoes and deal with it.
Mountain Madness 50K, NJ 10/18-- see ya there beads!
Mountain Masochist 50M, VA 11/7
December, local and NYRR 5Ks-15Ks
Phunt 50K, MD 01/02
Watchung 50K, NJ 01/09
Hyannis Marathon, MA 2/28

Do it. https://registration.baa.org/2010/cf/RegAthlete/pg_WebApp.cfm?mode=start
If I know you at all, you will qualify for Boston any year you want to. However, if you go to Boston now, you will have peace of mind that if you don't BQ in a year, it's fine, you already did Boston. If you want to skip a marathon and do the ultra or tri the week after, no big deal. If you want to run a marathon with a friend that's slower, go ahead.
The deciding factor for me is that I'll never be this young again. Maybe I'll get faster every year for the next 10-15 years, but what if I don't? I look forward to being an old slow crazy guy, not a crazed training nut achieving his PR at 50+ years of age.

Now we're talking, what an awesome day. The parties on Comm Ave and Boylston, and then the Red Sox game... Very fun. Oh, and I've heard a bunch of people run a marathon that day.
Damn you all. I have NO desire to run Boston, especially since I want to destroy (or be destroyed) at the Wildflower HIM weeks within. BUT now I'm contemplating. My gf really wants to go and has been working on me.....hmmmm, I will have a coach by then. I guess I'll run it by him when we go over my race calendar in the next couple months see what he says.

No offense meant! There's 2 types of old guys in a marathon. The one with a smile on his face and chatting with both spectators and athletes as he runs. Then there's the one that's fast and focused. Decades of base training under his belt, consistently passing young kids while executing perfectly even splits. I love both types, I just picture myself with a smile.
I'm chomping at the bit and reading everyone's RUNNING goals is drivin' me nuts! My next running event is The Goofy Challenge. Until then I'm running back slowly not want to aggravate my foot before I'm sure it's healed.
However...I'll be BIKING the 24 Hours of Booty next weekend, ( A fund raiser for the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Ulman Cancer Fund) and maybe Seagull Century for fun. A few short running races this fall just to dip my foot in and see how it feels. (pun totally intended).
Best of luck all!
I'll be running the Marine Corps Marathon Oct. 25. My "first" marathon. Actually, my second attempt. First attempt (18 years ago) I stuck with my partner to make sure she was on the bus ok (knee kept giving out) and because I did "they" wouldn't let me continue. This time I am back to redeem myself and raise some money for the Travis Manion Foundation.
*Now for the shameless plug* Check out travismanion.com You can sponsor me for as much as you want. $1.00, $5.00 heck $0.50 helps. It is a fantastic foundation that continues the spirit of a Marine that died in Iraq in April of 2007. I am raising $500.00 and I am 3/4 of the way there! Kari Prendergast is the name. *End of shameless plug*
