Return to my sport
1. Awesome. Good luck with training, I wish you the best.
2. I don't have experience training for or running ultras, but I have spent a fair amount of time in Leadville. I would try to get out there and run before the race. It is a different animal running up there - I'm from IA too. Last year, I went out to Leadville with my family. It was about a month before my A race, the Pigman Half-IM in Palo. I was in pretty good aerobic shape. We hiked to the summit of Mt. Massive one day, only 7 miles or so roundtrip, but with huge elevation changes. Even just walking that was very, very hard. I'd recommend getting out to Leadville, running some trails, and seeing what you're getting yourself into. I might be able to hook you up with some local runners if you do go out, let me know.
Hard days hard, easy days easy.
Awesome and thanks, also I do big pig every year. Really fun race.
I'm from the quad cities but lived in cedar rapids awhile. Nice to know there are more iowans in the community.

Here's MY favorite site for Ultra info (I'm friends with the guy).

You'll note a section on moving from 50's to 100's....tons of other info from a good cross section of the UR community.
Keep us posted on how your training is going for Leadville.

Welcome back and good luck. I look forward to following your progress toward the 100 miler. IT is an amazing goal.

Some of you may remember me. After IMWI last year I sort of fell away from the online community, and became a solo trainer. I would regularly check the forums here but haven't contributed in awhile.
Since I haven't spoken with a lot of you in a long time I figured I would clue you in as to why I am posting here again. surprise, surprise I am in need of advice. I have every intention of signing up for Leadville 100 in 2010 the moment the signup goes live. This will be my first event over 50 miles of continuous running and in an environment I am not really used to(being from Iowa and all). I am looking for some insight from some of the Ultra people I know we have on here. What can I expect from the jump from 50 to 100 miles? What kind of gear to people usually wear on these events (backpacks, fuel belts, fanny packs, etc) What do they put in these packs?
I am arrangements to be in Estes park a week before the event to get used to the altitude, and my training is going really well but I know this is going to be a race like nothing I've ever done before.
On another note, I now work at a Specialty running store and am a pacer for the Quad-Cities Marathon again this year. I am looking forward to being able to answer questions anyone has about running and gear in my time back on the forums!
