Sprint & Olympic..in two weeks?

So there is potential that I'm just stupid but I have a question: I'm signed up to do a Sprint on 9/25. I have run two marathons and was a competitive swimmer, so I've been focusing mainly on the bike while doing the maintenance required to keep the others up. I just realized looking at an Olympic plan that I've basically been following that training thus far. There is an Olympic in my town the next weekend, 10/4, after the Sprint. I'm I totally out of my mind thinking I might be able to do it the weekend after? I figure I won't actually register until after I finish the Sprint and make a final decision then, but just checking to see if anyone has done something like this before?

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry at all and would register for both. If your training plan is mostly for Olympic distance, the sprint will be like a complete training a week before. Enjoy it.

Shouldn't be an issue. A week is a long time to recover.

I've done it a few times before, and actually prefer stacking my races like that.

Sounds like you've got the training in to do both. You might just find that the Sprint distance is a great way to tune up before the Oly.
GO FOR IT!

+1 to all above. I did back to back races once this season and my second weekend, I raced better than the first. If I read your comments correctly, the sprint will be your first tri ever? Make sure you take the time to enjoy it. The first one is a blast!

I seem to remember a fellow TF'er doing an Oly and HIM in the same weekend...

i did sprint and oly in same weekend... mind you, i did not break any records (not even close - maybe for the slowest one!) but i did it...

Just do it!

Heck, try doing a Sprint and Olympic race on the same day, 3 hours and 12 minutes apart, did that 2 weekends ago at the Chicago Triathlon.

The key here is, which race is your A race versus your B race. If the Oly is your A race, then don't over due it on the Sprint.

You'll have plenty of time to recover.

Last 3 weeks I've done a half, sprint and a 40 mile hilly road race. Next weekend is a 5 mile running race and then savageman half the following weekend. I was a little tired for the sprint after the half as it was only 6 days between them. Otherwise I've felt fine.
