So as some of you know I had to have knee surgery. I just got home. It did not go as I had hoped.....
I had 2 cm of bone on bone. They had to do a procedure where they poke holes in the bone to induce bleeding so it scabs over. I am totally on crutches for 6 weeks, and now in addition to not being able to do IMC this past weekend my Disney marathon in January is not looking good (he wasn't optimistic).

I am sitting on the couch eating Doritos...my comfort food. After today that will be it and I must be VERY careful until I can do some exercise.

WAHHHH Just had to share with people who get it. I kept telling the dr I was PISSED (not his fault). He gets it since he is a competitive cyclist but still :(

Just Focus on getting better! Don't worry about Disney...If the Hubby still wants to come, come and and Volunteer or cheer him on! If you get the go ahead to run, go "wog" it. (a cross between a walk and a jog) God knows half the folks that go there do anyway!
Eat all the Doritos you want, but only tonight...

Just think of all the swimming you'll be able to do in the name of rehab! Sorry to hear this, I hope you get a nice surprise and it heals faster than expected!

Oh no. If there's anything else you ever wish you had time to do, now is the time.

Ever think about putting an underwater treadmill in that endless pool?

I hope you come to Disney so I can meet you and your husband.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I know this is just a small bump in the road. The dr did say long stuff (running) may be out in the future, but what does he know. ahahaha. I just needed to vent. I am also bummed because I found a cute Scott Contessa Plasma tri bike I was thinking of getting (on sale) but I can't test ride it now. Almost 1/2 off because they are not going to carry Scott any longer. Maybe this means I need the Orbea I was drooling over.

TryScot- he wants NO weight for 6 weeks. Its because they need it to scab over kinda to make a buffer between the femur and tibia. Really for the best if I want to keep running. They do make a treadmill for that pool though, so that is a good idea, and I have jogged in place in it. HARD work, but still some impact. We are going to Disney regardless. We have our tickets, condo etc. so count on it!

Britt -- good thing you are a tough chick! I know you will make it through this just like other crappy spots in races! It is best that you figured it out and did get to it now, and the doritos will help it!

Very sorry to hear about your knee. If I miss my workouts I get cranky. I imagine it's like what it feels like if you're addicted to crack. I get jittery. Best of luck on your recovery. Hopefully to race another day.

I like Warrior's idea. If it were me sitting on the couch, I'd be trying to find something else to sink my teeth into (and, of course, failing most of the time but probably with a bag of Oreos). My Type A personality needs something to focus on. Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear about the surgery and the aftermath. Makes my sprained ankle look pretty darn good right now (I have been whining all week like a kid, "when is this going to heal!") I know this will be a long six weeks but try to keep your eye on the big, big picture...6 weeks is a drop in the bucket compared to the number of years of tri enjoyment you have coming and when you look back it will seems shorter than it is now. Sit back chomp down a couple of Doritos (mine is the double stuffed oreas) and then take on the challege of trying to stay fit when crippled (for the time being)!

Aw Brit, I am so sorry to hear it. I was looking for some information on Trifuel the other day and did a search of old posts. There were a bunch from you talking about your excitement for IM this year. I was really bummed thinking about how you didn't get to do it. I hope you heal up well, and I like TryScott's idea of doing something maybe you always wanted to do but didn't have the time. Painting? Write a book? Learn a language? I dunno... But I feeeeeeeeeel for you. I'd hate to be out of commission for that long.

In my neck of the woods, be bring dinner to people who have had knee surgery. Wish I lived close enough to do that for you. So I am sending a "mental" dinner your way, along with a bag of Doritos ; )

That which does not kill me makes me faster...

MMMMMM Doritos!! I like a little mango salsa with mine(then you get some veggies)
I know how you feel, and it does suck.
Recover carefully and maybe you will heal up better than expected.

All sympathies Britt. Just take it easy and nail the rehab this fall. Everything else is out of your control.

Brittda...
goodness. i have been so busy the past few days this is the first moment i have had to respond to your post.

ugh.. knee surgery. i had mine in 1997.... i was in pain for a good 6 months afterwards not able to really do much.. I remember thinking i wouldnt be able to run ever again. But now i am so great full i did it because i can do so much more than before..
i know this time is a HUGE pain.... it really is while you can't do anything... but when you are all healed up and rested..... it will be worth it.
