Just found out I got the whole damn family coming out..talk about pressure.[/quote]
That's awesome. And you'll need it. I've done them with support crews and solo, and support crew is the way to go. You'll have someone to carry your bags, hold/roll your bike along, fetch the car, etc. It could be like having a golf caddy, or tri caddy, follow you around for the day. One thing that isn't addressed here very often (and you may know this) is that when you check in, part of your race packet will include a bike pick-up 'receipt' or claim ticket. It is used for when someone other than you picks up your bike. If you pick it up yourself, they just match up body marking 642 with bike 642. But if you send someone else, security will need your permission to give out nyfan21's trusty bike. The specifics may change, but it's a little claim ticket that says, "Let someone other than nyfan21 pick up my bike." Give this ticket to your significant other and have them pick up your bike while you are on the run. It's much nicer to have your bike already back on the car or in the hotel or dropped off at the transport truck - however you got it there - than having to wait in line for it afterwards. I've waited in line, picked it up, schlepped it back to the hotel with filthy T1 and T2 bags, wet wetsuit - it is a total beating to do after 140.6. See if they can pick up your T1 and T2 bags, too, then you just finish, get your medal, and walk away - it belongs to the ages.
TriSooner-
Thanks bro; you have been an inspiration to me like so many others here on Trifuel. I can't wait for next Sunday; I hope "The Hay is in the Barn".........
Will be volunteering from 6-9 at the finish line writing done race numbers and time. Can't wait!!! No pressure- probably why I am so excited. I'll keep tabs so I can spot you guys!
Good luck everyone! The hard part is almost over, race day is a blast.
+1 to Iron Sherpas. My wife and family are great. Let them know where the best places are to spectate and where you'll need them the most (for me it was Yellow Lake at IMC). Knowing where you'll see your family on the course gives you something to look forward to while you're out there.
Now that my IM is over I'm jealous that you all have the whole experience in front of you. We'll be following online.
Wannakona- thx for the support bro. I have to say that was one of the toughest bike/run combos ive ever experienced, but the volunteers & spectators made up for it!
