Swimming with Dolphins...
Tonis,
I also had a similar experience this summer in the carribean. We stayed on the south side of Isla Murjeres and every morning I would swim out to the reef a half mile offshore, getting my swim workout in at the same time enjoying the most beautiful fish and coral formations. We even swam with whale sharks and manta rays one afternoon. It was an experience I will never forget and can thank my tri training for givng me the confidence to even attempt.
I was swimming off the coast of So. Cal. with my friend a few weeks ago. We must have only been 5 minutes into our swim when my friend, sounding scared, says, "shit, I just saw a fin". So we both immediately start heading toward the shore looking behind us the whole way ... not seeing anything.
Finally, we are both standing on the sand looking back out at the water and we see dolphins playing in the waves. Needless to say, they scared us out of the water .... damn dolphins!
So very cool TonisTri! I honestly believe that the triathlon lifestyle is a gift that just keeps on giving!

What a fantastic thing for you and your family! What a great feeling that must have been to just have the courage to jump out there. I wonder if my own courage would have been there to do that! So cool.
Thats awesome...can't wait for my honeymoon in October, OWS in Arubaaaaaaaahhhh. Oh yeah, the rest of the honeymoon stuff too..haha j/k. OWS is an added benefit.
i dont know what today will bring to me, but thats just fine.
Congrats on your impending wedding Semper Tri! I've been married for 18 years and it's been awesome. Wish you much happiness (and many cool OWSs!)

That's pretty exciting! On my honeymoon we saw a pod of dolphins swimming in the pressure wave off the bow of our sailboat. They're really cool, and it was great to watch.
But a small warning: Dolphins aren't all friendly, they're still wild, and they have been known to attack humans.
That's Awesome! Being that close to nature is always a rush.
Last week, I was paddling out for a good surfing session as Bill was passing by out in the ocean and just as I'm getting ready to duck dive under this wave I see a fin, and then 3 more coming right at me. It was kinda scary at first but once out past the breakers, it was fun watching them play around in the surf.
On a side note, as robtrys said dolphins arent exactly like a puppy, but if you see more than 1 you can be sure there isnt a shark anywhere close by.

My family just returned from a great vacation in the Outer Banks of NC. We often see dolphins off the coast and sometimes, if they're close enough, we throw the kayak in the water and chase them. This year, a huge school of dolphins came leaping down the coast, just about 600 meters out from the beach. My husband immediately took my daughter out in the kayak to chase them. I was standing on the shore, happy for my girl, but bummed I was going to miss it.
That's when it hit me that I could just swim out there. So I did. We spent 30 minutes or so chasing dolphins around, hubby and daughter in a kayak, me on my sons boogie board. One dolphin went right under the kayak and came up and "smiled" at my daughter. I never got closer than 30 feet myself, but it was absolutely thrilling.
The reason I post this here is because just two years ago I never would have attempted such a thing. I had neither the swimming skills, the endurance nor the courage to go chasing dolphins. I have my triathlon training to thank for this amazing experience.
