On line coaching
43 dollars a month? Seems to good to be true (for quality info anyways) I may be off but I have had a few freinds who have inlisted the use of coaches through phone call, interent and they were in the 350-400 a month range.

And generally highly overpriced.
Check out the pricing on training plans at Training Bible or Carmichael. 1k/month? You're f'ing kidding me... They better be traveling with me, living in my house and doing the cooking and laundry for that.
Anything over $100/month, and you're getting ripped off. Basically, you're paying someone about $100/hour of work, and it just depends how much work you want them to put in. The more expensive plans will take into account your bike power, run/swim heart rate and base your training off that. You can get similar ideas from reading Allen and Coggan's Training and Racing with a Power Meter, Friel's Triathlete's Training Bible, and asking other athletes around what they do.
I say, try the guy at 30E/mo for a couple months. If it doesn't work out, you should have a better understanding of how to set up a training plan and what you can adjust based on your personal needs, and can leave the relationship with your head high knowing that you didn't waste a lot of cash on something you don't need or didn't really help. At the end of the day, you only get out of a training plan that which you put in.
I have been using Mark allen Online for the last 18 months. The reason I chose this program, despite the expense, is how well it updates and tweaks the program as you go. The reality of my job means I miss or need to alter workouts more often than I would like. This program is really helpful at updating to make sure I am prepared. Also, the coaches are very quick to answer questions and advice on your specific problems. I used it for my first 70.3 where I was paranoid about not being prepared. Very happy with it. Not sure I would spend the money for shorter distances, though.
I've used www dot opentri dot com in the past and plan on using it again next year. It's basically a free plan without anyone to follow you, but it's pretty good and user friendly. Mike Llerandi, the guy who wrote the plan, asks for a $50 donation which is a pretty darned good deal. Also, he does offer assistance and personal help with the plan, etc for $99/mos.
Check it out. Tribro also has permission to use this plan on the site as well which is how I found out about it.

the beginner triathlete site seems to have reasonably priced offers. However I would say if you are going to give someone money, start with the 30 dollar guy see what you get. 2 months should tell you if you are improving or not

Hi all
Not sure if its appropriate to ask here but anyway - anybody got any recommendations or experiences of using online trainers. I live in Spain and can find a Spainish on-line trainer for 30euros a month (about 43 dollars) who will give me a week by week training schedule supposedly based on the info ive given him about my current schedule (largely self devised) and the results i have so far (in sprint triathlons). My spanish is good but obviously i would prefer to deal in English if the price is similar.
So my questions would be - are on line trainers recommendable and have you had positive experience from using them and anyone able to recommend any?! Another option would be to buy a generic training schedule for sprint triathlons (for lets say intermediates) which would at least only be a one off payment?
As always any advice welcome. If nothing else comes up I will try this spanish guy a month or two and see if i feel i am getting any sort of personal touch unless of course anyone puts me in touch with anything more appealing!
Best wishes
Simon
