That link doesn't seem to be working. Maybe this one will:

I used my socks at my last race...

Last weekend, when I stopped for gas on the way to Steelhead, I noticed that one of my fancy Fizik gel aerobar pads was missing from my bike, which was racked on the back of my car. I guess that's what I get for forgetting to un-velcro them before taking off. I considered manning up and enduring the 56 miles on hard plastic, but decided it might be a better idea to search for alternatives at the local Walgreens. Some possibilities included using pieces of a foam pirate sword, a mouse pad, dish towels, and even taping down some beanie babies. Eventually I found this:

(Walgreens actually had a two-pack for 9.99)
I strapped these puppies on with some electrical tape, and must say I've never had a more comfortable ride. My only regret is using too much electrical tape, as it made them a bit slippery when my arms got sweaty. I'm sure there are more efficient ways to attach them, but I was constrained by time. The reason I didn't fork over the money to buy "legitimate" aerobar pads is that I plan on getting a new set up pretty soon. I am now seriously considering sticking with the Sponge-Tech pads when I do.
P.S. Having just browsed the latest issue of Triathlete at the bookstore the other day, I noticed that T.J. Tollakson has one-upped me, using athletic supporters:
