For those of you thinking ahead about IMLP for 2011, Rhode Island 70.3 2010 registration is open. This year there was a deal that allowed early registration to IMLP for the following year which was 2 weeks before anyone else could register. Of course there is no guarantee the same deal will apply but it's something to keep in mind.

If one's primary goal is to register for IMLP, it's probably cheaper and much simpler to shoot for a general entry spot, and if that doesn't pan out just secure a community fund spot.

TriKev, do you mean that if you race at RI 70.3, you can sign up for IMLP on race day? Or you register for both online at the same time? How does it work?

After the race they had open registration for IMLP for the following year, it's a pretty good deal if you're planning on a half in 2010 and thinking ahead for a full in 2011. I'm not saying to do it just to get in IMLP since there are other ways but figured I'd inform the crowd since they don't seem to publicize this benefit.

btw, I raced the course this year and it's pretty good. The swim was pretty rough but that was from a storm the night before, the bike was quick rolling hills and finished with a pretty challenging run.

Thanks! I was considering RI 70.3 anyway. If I decide I am brave enough to go for IMLP as my first IM, what a slam dunk that will be if it works out. Anything else you can tell me about RI would be greatly appreciated!

They did similar at Boise 70.3. They had unlimited slots for IMCDA 2010 and about 25-50 slots for the other races in North America for 2009. The guy I trained with ended up with a slot to IMWI, not bad considering it was sold out.
