I have a HIM coming up in a few weeks in northern michigan. the bike is not flat at all, but no sustained climbs (probably a .5 mile is the longest). what kind of geometry would you all pick for this type of course? I can set up as either my road bike with a forward post/aerobars for my tri bike, or as my regular road bike without aerobars.

are the hills wicked steep or can you just ride normally with them? I go with the aerobars as much as possible

Is it the 3D event or the ElementEvents event?

Tri bike is almost always the answer. The only time I ever chose a road bike for a non-drafting race was for Alcatraz, and that race has lots of very fast turns and terrible road conditions. The race you're doing sounds similar to the course they've used at Hagg Lake in Portland a few times for some big races. I used a tri bike with a disc out there and was very happy with it.

Ya, I agree with UFTriGartor. I've done multiple races at Hagg Lake, the tri bike is your best bet for rolling hills.

Tired is a state of mind, exhaustion is a state of body.

I thought that the tri geometry would work out better. I have never done a race this long with as many rolling hills so it made me a bit nervous as I don't like going uphill very much.
