ok, so i've got a tri..ummm, tomorrow and after only thinking about it last night...i've realised that this is my first tri since my hair has been cut to a completely impractical length....i.e always having to flick it out of my eyes....all the time, it can be tyed back, but the front still veryshort.....and, i havent got a clue what to do with it....

its a sprint tri....i can tuck it up in the swim, or tie it low......so it's still ok to put my helmet on, which keeps it out of my eyes....but then havent got a clue what to do on the run...tis too hot for a hat....n peaked sun hats annoy me running in them.....help?

How about wearing a visor? They are perfect for hot weather and they help keep the sun (and hair) out of your eyes. The other option would be to buy one of those mesh hats designed specifically for running. They have great ventilation to prevent you from overheating.

Jene ~ I just got mine all cut off -- preparing for a summer of tri and marathon training and was tired of spending 20+ min drying/curling/primping multiple times per day. Since it isn't a "fashion show", maybe just a little barrette to hold back the offending pieces in the front? Good luck!

Oh i know where you're coming from with this one! (well... apart from the 'it's too hot part' - i have my first tri of the season tomorrow and dreading cycling in wet tri suit...). I got my idea from my 5 year old pupils - they use those really practical clips - not the flat usually bnlack hair grips, but small curved clips... They are perfect and ou can have them on under your cap/helmet and then when running.

Best of luck!

I would second the visor. Headsweats makes a nice coolmax visor for $15. I always wear one when traiing and racing (I've got longer hair than your average Joe Blow..probably just a little longer than your "totally impractical" length)

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

I have the same hair issue and I wear a dri-fit hat that actually keeps me cooler and keeps the sun off my face (big on the sunscreen!)

You can also hold the shorter hair back with a headband - not one of those thick headbands from the early 90s, but one of those little thin string-like headbands. A lot of times you'll see field hockey or lacrosse girls sporting them. I use those to hold back any shorter hair I have in the front and they aren't bulky or look bad, and they won't soak up all your sweat and get really heavy like the thicker head bands. The brand Scunci makes them and I've also bought some at American Eagle (not sure if they still sell them there though). They usually sell a pack of like 10 of them together.
Hope this helps!
