Putting Triathlon on Hold for a Good Cause
Hey as a Dad I can tell you parenthood is just the business, Congratulations... 10,000 m runner Sonja O Sullivan had a baby and was back on track ( literally) within a few weeks of the birth.
Enjoy your time. If it's not too personal of me to say so, feed the baby naturally if you can. It's a huge benefit to both Mother and child. Both physically and emotionally ....
Enjoy and Celebrate.

oh, Tamara! Congratulations!!! You will definitely be back...but enjoy this very special time! When are you due? I only started triathlons and running races after I had all my kids. It's a great way to get some quiet time and a great example to set for you kids.

Congratulations. We just had our second kid in March and it has definitely put a dent in my training time - all worth it, however. Before her birth my workouts were done with rest. They are now done without rest. Things will be tough for a few months but you'll be able to get back out there (speaking from a time point of view - no idea on the recovery part). I pray that everything goes well and you can enjoy this incredible time.

That's great, congratulations. FWIW, you don't have to be actively racing to contribute here. I do maybe one tri a year. Anyway, back to your new bump. Not that you need to, but I'm just curious, can you still swim? I imagine cycling might be a bit much (danger of crashing), and running may be a bit hard, but can you swim? I mean, are you planning on swimming late term? I ask because there was a woman who swam laps at my pool and she was huge, as in, "Any minute now" huge. She swam in a two piece and I thought it was cool. :)
Awesome news. Congrats! The next generation of triathletes for Trifuel. :)
Congrads! Ive heard that as an athlete, continuing on in some sort of exercise (swimming) is the best thing you can do, instead of just 'stopping'....just what Ive heard....no medical experience here.
Great news! You'll be back into it before you know it.

Just keep spinning....spinning, spinning....uh, do I know you?

You know people will be talking... "She was such a nice young girl, then she got knocked up. Now she's a hot mom arranging playdates and driving a mini-van. What is this world coming to? Before you know it all those crazy kids that used to wear little shorts and bright tops will be pushing jogging strollers and riding their indoor bicycles next to the playpen."
Congrats and enjoy.
Eeeee :) Do you know how hard it is for a Kylie to keep quiet??? :)
But I'm still so so excited for you and your family, although I will miss you this weekend! We'll have to find another triplaydate once you figure out midget ones!

Congrats on the great news!! My wife had our first child last year and I can't wait for him to grow up and go for those early morning training swim/bike/runs with me.

I would say babies and kids and a much tougher test of mental toughness and physical endurance.
Ironman, Ultras, and marathons help me relax and keep in shape to contend with my daughters!
Congratulations Tamara and to hubby Stu! You know the strongest swimmer is in there.
See you at IM Lake Placid

Could explain why you have been seen with duct tape on your mouth! ;-)

Congrats! I still see many of my pregnant moms running, swimming and spinning during their pregnancy. My friend has done 5 IM and recently had a baby. She was back on her bike 3 days after she gave birth (no stitches). Not recommended, but this girl is hard core...You'll still be in the swing of things!
I tore some stitches b/c I ran before it was recommended after my c-section. listen to you doctor. He/She really does know what s/he is talking about.

Congratulations! Your tri life is not over-i did my first tri a few months after my son was born. He is 5 now and I will be doing IMLP next year. So don't worry- enjoy your beautiful child and don't forget to get a babyjogger! It's the best thing for an active mom.

Ya, he said 6 weeks, but the stitches looked good to me ;) at 4 weeks, and I was SOOOO itching to run. The neighbor saw me and wagged her finger at me b/c she knew I wasn't supposed to run yet. I made her promise not to tell my husband. Not that it mattered since I had to go to the dr. DUH!

very cool news! and thanks for sharing it with us!
we'll be rooting for you! [those babies can be tough...but i think you can take 'em!] :)
congratulations to you both!!
You're funny jtrimom! A week after my c-section I could only walk 3 mph on the treadmill. Felt like an invalid!! It's also nice to hear about moms doing IM with younger kids. I have some people telling me its crazy since my two youngest are 6 and 8.
congratulations. and +1 to breastfeeding. overwhelming benefits, although it is not easy.

That is funny! I have a 4 year old and and 8 year old. I said when the youngest turns 6 I will start my IM training. Not crazy...just good at time management! Well at least when it comes to the training and the kids. To heck with everything else! A picked up house is the sign of a boring life! Plus, you can always hire someone for that. ;)

i'm waiting for my son to be a teenager before considering IM
HIM for now...
Congratulations!
I don't know about road bikes (since I didn't ride a road bike for the first time until after my kids were born) but I could ride a beach cruiser well into my 5th month both times.
I think just don't go crazy on the run and you can swim right up until you deliver.
I'm like jtrimom - I didn't start tris until my after my kiddos were born. I did my first tri when my son was 17 months old - but I've seen Moms with much younger kids out there.
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...
Best wishes, you are in for the best and sweetest race of your life.
My daughter is headed off to China on Sunday for a year and I'm delivering my middle son to Virginia Tech in 2 weeks for the next 4 years. The little one stays home a little longer:)
Cherish every moment of the journey.
Cheers!
great cause! enjoy and let's us how preganancy relate to training, if it does!
congratulations!!! there is nothing better in the world- you are going to enjoy being a mom. do you know if it a boy or a girl yet?
Congratulations!!

now this opens up a new world of pregnancy forums!!!
THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! Reading all your good wishes just has this huge grin on my face.
To answer questions
yes, I hope to bf, sharing the same thoughts as the advice that some of you offered. But, there will be NO minivan! :-)
I definitely intend to continue, or actually re-start, exercising. These last two months I was so tired I told my husband that at the end of each workday I felt like I'd done a marathon or half iron or something. Slept every day after work and was lucky if I could walk the dogs around the block. Unbelievable fatigue like nothing I've ever felt. But in the last three days or so, my energy is back. So, I'll be hitting the running trail and the swimming pool with gusto! Unfortunately, I am being uber-cautious so my bike probably won't get much of a workout except maybe on the trainer. It kills me, since that's my favorite sport, but I'm just nervous.
And Tribro, let me know where to find a Trifuel onesie and the kid will be sportin' the colors next year!!

Although I will still be on Trifuel multiple times daily, my next tri is probably at least a year away. And I now have the sonogram photos of a cute little future triathlete to prove it! :-)
But, means I need to wish good luck to those of you doing Barb's Race this weekend, since I had to change my plans. I'll look longingly at registration for IMKY since that had been my goal for 2010 before this new goal. And I've had to shelve the nascent idea of my first ultra this fall.
C'mon tri moms, reassure me that I'll be back in the game! This little one is bouncing around like crazy already, so clearly has a future as a triathlete and will be on the sidelines cheering Daddy, as well as Beads and all the other Trifuelers on at Lake Placid next summer.
Thanks to Star and Kylie for keeping the secret but letting me vent some excitement the last few weeks!
