I know it's sometimes taboo to direct folks away to another forum, in which I apologize, but I happened to catch this while registering for a race... Thought it was funny when considering all the discussions around wearing speedos the last few weeks...

That is funny, except for some of the people that responded sound like some really sorry jerks.

"If ya got it, flaunt it."

I pity the critic who got so incensed about seeing a well-trained body (3rd overall) performing optimally. He probably doesn't object to women's Pro Beach Volleyball so he's just plain sexist.

I grew up admiring Muscle & Fitness magazine's models and the competitors in the top shows like Mr. Olympia. The Greeks raced the first Olympics in the nude, never mind a Speedo. This body modesty finds its roots in the teasing of peers at puberty. I urge them to grow up and get over their own inhibitions. If discretion bids them to remain covered up in public because they are unfit, then train harder, learn about nutrition and learn about the rest of the world.

Slightly off subject, is it hypocritical to want to ban the burka for women, and yet want men to cover up with surf shorts?

It's an active dot com discussion board, the height of irrelevancy. Active has the most worthless "UGC" (user-generated content) ever. The posts are all from faceless accounts which were created within the last few days, each amassing an impressive three or four posts total. I should create an account over there and post a link to our 'real' discussion of the topic.

Proof about their irrelevancy? Let's go way back to an Oct '08 beads post about an active article which has since been scrubbed from Active. SHOCKER!

I remember that one. Yeah, not a fan of active. That's why I feel so lucky to have found Trifuel. It's kind of self serving but man this group kicks butt! There are many good writers here and are every bit as good as you average column out there.

Just for grins and giggles add "in a speedo" the next time you are talking about your work out routine to one of your friends who is interested in doing a triathlon. For example.

Friend- "What did you do this weekend Bob?"
Bob- "Saturday I did my long ride, 4hrs, 'in a speedo', then on Sunday I did my long run, 17 miles, 'in a speedo' "

Then explain that it is very old school, all the really cool triathletes race and train that way.

Or take it one step further by adding "in a speedo" anytime you want the conversation to take an interesting twist. Example- Tonight I have to go to the grocery store, do laundry, and take out the trash, "in a speedo".

Speedo, it's not just for racing anymore.

The ranter is of the extreme 5% of a very fashion conscious group (probably enjoys driving his pro bike around town on top of his car as much as riding it to an age-group finish). I applaud the people who snub their . . . noses at the latest trend and do their own thing.

That being said, here’s to the banana hammock being out of the frame of my finish line photo.
