Does anyone know of a company that produces hats or visors that can hold GUs or gels? I know they're out there as I've seen athlete's in marathons using them, I just can't seem to find one :(

Would you mind me asking why in your hat? would it not put extra weight on your neck and then hamper your running style or aero position? Just wondering?

The weight of 4 GUs around my head is not going to "cramp" my running form, it's much better IMO that have something bouncing around my waist.

Are you just looking for something for your run on the race? Are you still planning on a fuel belt? I usually have a gu flask I just grab in T2 and throw it in my back pocket of my tri top or shorts pocket. Then I don't have to mess with the extra packets and opening them when my hands are all swollen (and they will be). I have also never carried a fuel belt and just drink what is on the course. There is an aid station every mile, and I hate having that thing on my waist at that point in the race.

Yes

No. I hate fuel belts with a passion. The flask could be an option but a last resort as I have to carry salts as well. I need to find this darn hat! I should have just stole it from the guy at the marathon.

I have one like that fastdog5....if this is what she is looking for it won't hold that many gu's, maybe 2 at most.

you could tape gels to a hat/visor, and make your own version!

well, seeing as you need a race number on anyway, what about this:

I asked my De Soto rep and the hat only carries up to one GU :(

I'm going to test out taping them to the inside of my visor and see how that works. Thanks for the idea! If tape doesn't hold - which I can't see it not since it will have the pressure of being around me head as well I could try to staple them in and just tear them off.

The belt is a last option. My race number would be pinned to my shirt, I really hate anything around my midsection.

Thanks for all the suggestions/feedback.

One thing to think about with tape-- if you put any water on your head with a sponge or sweat like me (even my brim gets wet) they will unstick.

Is a thigh strap practical?

race number belts have holders for gu's and are not as restricting as fuel belts.

Ha! Like a garter? :) I'd think that I'd probably get some kind of chaffing from the inside of the band.

I was thinking like a thigh holster thingy, with a pocket...but yep chaffing..........., I am wondering now about the position of your fuel belt, I wear mine low sitting on the top of my ass so it can move....if there is just a couple of gels in it I guess I would notice it less........
Pocket in the shoe?? You could strap it to your laces maybe?

Don't your shorts have pockets on the side? I'm racing with the DeSoto Forza shorts that have 4 pockets and plan on stashing my gels there. My other tri shorst all have at least two small pockets.

When you explained taping gels to your visor I picture gels on the sides of your visor with duct tape going over your head and under your chin like you would do with a dressing for a head wound.

If your arms and legs are shaved use duct tape $2.99 a roll! ;-)

Or maybe try one of these vests they are very comfortable and light

4.5 ounces

I'm probably going to run in split shorts and my current ones do not. I'm going to shop around (at work :)) and see if I can find something. The pocket has to be strategically placed so that I don't get annoyed from the "bounce".

Lol, I like your visual. Maybe I'll go with it :D

Your link doesn't work but I found what you posted through Nathan's back end. That vest rocks, I'll give it a try. Thanks!

If all else fails I'll resort to the head wrap/mask thing and duct tape around my legs.

You are going to end up looking like Lara Croft. You could always wear those beer hats, you know the one with two tankards either side and a huge straw coming into your mouth? :-)

I am loving this.....what do you work at by the way or where?

I tried to build a hat like that for my costume at the Pac Crest Oly, once I thought of it I didn't have enough time of energy to create it.

The GAS Cap is freaking awesome. Holds up to 6 GUs and I don't even not notice them there!

Did you get the visor or full hat?
Hats are hard for me as I tend to over heat, but love visors.
