How do you know what to wear for your specific triathlon? I've seen some people wear the same thing the whole time and others change at each transition. It looks like some people run in cycling shorts and others in a speedo. Anyone have some tips?

I can't believe it: the options for tri wear are now either cycling shorts or a speedo. This was prophesized when gfd commented, "This site my be responsible, one day, for bringing the speedo completely back into fashion." So, Triler, since you are apparently open to this option, I suggest you race start-to-finish in a Speedo.

If you want to make it into the Calender then you need a speedo pic!

I wear a speedo but the kind that have a nice long 8" inseam - more like a compression short. I think they are called "practice suits" by swimmers.

On top I wear a tri singlet from Tyr. It's funny, I only have 1 - so I look the same in all the photos from my 3 races so far...

No "banana hanger" for me. Water is usually too cold lol.

So where does one shop online for Speedos? speedo.com ? TriSooner's looked kind of camo to me. Cabelas maybe?
Oh and the idea of racing in one scares the hell out of me.

Thanks Millman221!
TriSooner - thanks for the overly sarcastic and childish response on a simple question. Obviosuly i didn't mean those were the only two options to race in but they were mere examples of what I've seen people wear. I hope you take a break from online forums soon and get a life. Oh and thanks to you too.

Well I always wear the same thing(not the same outfit, but similiar). Tri shorts and a sleeveless tri top. I don't change for any part. I DID slip into running shorts on my first IM, but that was the only time.

Don't be too hard on Tri-sooner. Remember this is an online community and his post is much funnier if taken in the whole context, and more pointed at everyone... Also, even though this is a fairly friendly forum, you still have to be able to take some gentle teasing.

My first Tri I wore, well I can't remember, but I know it wasn't a speedo or bike shorts since I didn't have either. I do seem to remember some serious chafing though., so it is actually important. I remember doing the bowlegged wet daiper run... :)

Anyway, now for sprint and Oly distance, I standardly run a pair of tri shorts under the wetsuit for the swim, topless for the bike(so just the tri shorts), and toss on a sleeveless shirt for the run. I just can't rock the speedo, too much thigh chafing.... On my IM I plan on changing each transition. Swim in Tri-shorts under the wetsuit, bike in my bike shorts and a bike jersey, Run in running shorts and a sleeveless Tee. I figure the 30-45 seconds to change is worth the extra comfort.

Good Luck

Holy crap. Who would have thought so many different styles were out there.

I wear 2XU tri shorts and a 2XU tri top. Love them both. I tried a one piece suit once and it chafed the heck out of my arms.

Welcome to Trifuel and +1 about TriSooner. It was good-natured teasing. No reason to get upset. He is a funny guy and he knows a ton about the sport.

triler

tri shorts & a singlet for the whole race...it's also very flexible between training and racing purposes

if you're highly competitive, tri suit...but honestly, you've got to fit their sizing well otherwise it's not worth it IMHO

btw, am I the only one who does a double take when I see "grab bag" as the caption below a picture of a speedo in online shops?

I almost snarfed coffee outta my nose - "GRAB BAG". I'll never be able to shop for tri gear online again without looking for that HAHA.

I just bought a one piece tri/riding suit from ebay, havent gotten it yet, but i hope it is comfy and does not look too ridiculous.

Triler - welcome to the forums. These guys (and gals) have helped a lot of newbies including me learn a lot about equipment, training, racing tips, etc.

Welcome Triler! Being a chick, I don't have much to add to this. I welcome all speedo pictures though!

Don't mind Sooner, it was all good -natured...you'd have to read the multiple discussions regarding racing in a speedo to fully understand that response....(I'd post the links but I'm not cool enough to know how. =) Anyone??) Looks like you are the expert in that area Sooner, judging by your most recent postings.
