I'm Obese
Well so am I , but I just did a 75 mile hilly-er than most bikeride this morning on my way to my 3rd IM. What ever I say.
Well, if it makes you feel better, 25.8 is only overweight. You aren't obese until your BMI hits 30. So, relax and have some more ice cream! :-)

OHHH good! then I can go have a piece of pizza (prefer to ice cream) :)
Join the military. They use the same system to evaluate and put soldiers on warning based on this scale. Every 6 months I had to go get a measuring tape put all over me while some sargeant whom couldn't even run to the end of the block wrote down the measurements. Just a hassle to have to go through when it is clear I am not obese (7% bf). It is ok now though I am on the Fire dept where obesity is encouraged (just kidding).
25.6 BMI here. But I can't chalk it up to the muscle or anything. It's the squishy bits. Still - less squishy than previously! So that's something.
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...
I knew you people would make me fell better about my meaningless test results.
Yeah, ....I'm 5'8" and 176lbs wearing 32 pants and the BMI scale says I'm overweight (but my wife says I'm scrawny!)
Of course, this time last year I was 250 and wearing 44's so HA! The BMI scale can kiss my &*%^$#!
Just keep spinning....spinning, spinning....uh, do I know you?

The BMI is antiquated. It needs to be redone with an allowance for body fat % and muscle mass. A scale based simply on body height compared to weight is a joke.

the bmi is only a screening tool. much better is waist:hip ratio, especially in predicting cardiovascular risk, etc. but people are correct, changes do need to be made. for example, polynesians have more muscle:fat at the same bmi as other people, while asians have less. so there are ethnic specific bmi charts, but these have not been adapted by the world health organization.
I think the only thing worse than the BMI scale is perhaps the fact its still taught and encouraged in classrooms. I took nutrition a few years back and even as a college athlete I was hardly under the overweight level. What a crock, but the worst part was the professor cramming it down everybody's throat, anyone wonder why a bunch of college girls think they're overweight? Anyway, just my rant. I brickyarded a 25 mile ride with a 6 mile run today and my BMI is 25 (overweight)? BS I know I look good!
WAR EAGLE!
The BMI scale is total crap (I could stop right here, but I've got nothing better to do right now) when used on fit and athletic people because it doesn't take into account fat vs muscle and the like. It's an overly simplistic tool to scare normal people into dropping a few pounds. Triathletes? Definitely not normal ;-)
A good friend of mine is over 250 pounds. He kicked butt when he swam competitavely in high school, and 100 m sprint is still on of the fastest I've seen someone do (aside from pro athletes). One time he checked his BMI and it was almost 28.
When I played rugby, there was a guy who was over 250, people would look at him and assume he's just there to knock people over, not to run. In the caf you could see him eating unhealthy all the time. But he could easily keep up with the best sprinters on our team, and was untouchable if he got a breakaway out on the pitch.
And then of course there's all the Clydesdales and Athenas we know in Tris.
What's I'm saying is, BMI, fat %, even just simple weight, it's all just numbers, and to me it's all bull. What isn't bull is what you do.

Nice to be fat isn't it? ;-)
ya, don't worry about it, just don't race in a speedo ;)
(I wonder how many threads we can move to that topic)
Taper Naked

So today, mostly for giggles, I stopped by a WallGreens where AARP had a mobile "wellness lab" where they would test your Blood Pressure, Glucose levels, Cholesterol, % body fat, Bone Density, Body Mass Index, and your ... waist. Hey, it was free. My entire family took these tests and we were all looking over our results and it turns out that I (a 5' 9" 175lb male) has a BMI of 25.8 which is just over the edge of obese.
It kills me that despite having 12% body fat (according to their machine), a 1 hr 3min 40k TT, 42 min 10k, and an embarrassing swim time (my last Oly) I am "obese". The only thing more messed up than the general state of the health of the average American is apparently how we measure it. Just had to get that off my chest. Other than that i look good, and apparently my Glucose is low despite having just eating a huge lunch. Go figure. The BMI scale is bogus, or last I heard it was.
