This past weekend my family and I signed up for the 5k, 10k and kid races to benefit Chileda which is a home for kids with disabilities. I ran the 10k while my 8 yr old son and husband did the 5k. My 6yr old daughter did the 600m kid race.

The 10k started first and I ran past me son who was on the sideline cheering everyone on. He was so nervous- standing there with his first timing chip and official race number. I got choked up running past him...but then I remember I was actually running and needed to keep breathing! The 5k started 30 min after us. Twice along the route we caught up with the 5kers and then split from them. I saw my son running ahead of me at one point, but knew I was splitting again from them.Once again choked up because he was doing so good!

My daughter ran the whole 600m and didn't stop...no time but she really enjoyed herself.

He finished his first 5k in 37 min. (His 19 yr old sister did it last year in 41 min) I was really proud of him and he was proud of himself! I love that they are embracing this healthy lifestyle!

Congrats! I am sure your example helps them in getting in to the lifestyle.
