Today i've been feeling really tired, i was outta town the last two days and didn't get any training in. The trip must have taken all of my energy, and I need to get a workout in today. Are there any food/drink you guys use a a pick me up before a workout thanks.

I'm always surprised at how water helps out compared to some sweet caffeinated crap that tastes like battery acid.

Nope, The first step or pedal stroke usually does the trick though :)

+1 for sure. I find the less I use caffeine the less I need it.

A cold, crispy apple. I don't know where I heard the quote but, "If you went running when you first thought about it you'd be done by now."

+1 to fruit. I'm partial to bananas or pineapple. Or pepperoncinis although I'm not under the impression that's a fruit.

and while I don't consume massive amounts of caffeine, I do like a good clif shot or gu prior to starting... always seems to do the trick.

EmergenC, or a friend has once mentioned acai juice.

I've tried simple carbs (sugar) and caffeine when sluggish, and I'm always disappointed with the result.

Jalepenos, chilis, hot sauce, mint, cinnamon. All should give you a pretty solid endorphin rush to get you going. While trying to be somewhat funny, I do think it would do the trick. Snap into something spicy and it'll wake your right up. That should at least give you enough juice to get out the door. Then once you've got your heart rate up its all fun and games!
