Just looking for some general thoughts. Have you guys gotten better results with doing a long bike on Sat with the long run on Sun or the other way around? I like to to a short run after the long bike and a short bike before the long run but I'm trying to decide which way to schedule the long sessions in preparation for my next race.

I've done it both ways and feel the Long bike, long run thing works best for me. It might not for you.
short runs after the bike are good, but try a short bike immediately AFTER your long run...helps to extend the aerobic benefit.
Try it several ways and find what works for you!
Have a great weekend!

I find that I'm usually able to put in a higher quality run workout if I don't do it the day after the long bike, but I think the ordering is highly dependent on which discipline requires more work for the individual... I happen to need more run work.

There's a school of thought that says to do the long bike and long run a few days apart to maximize the quality of each. So you'll see plans that say to run long on Thursday and then bike on the weekend. For IM distance, I think this makes some sense. When I can make it work with my schedule, that's what I'll do.

However, I can't always run long mid-week so I still have many weekends where I do long bike and then long run.

I can't argue with the theory behind spacing the long ride and long run a few days apart. However, there is something to be gained for the metal and physical toughness developed by doing them back to back. Your legs are going to be trashed during the run in a HIM or an IM, so my feeling is I better get used to it. My quality run workouts occur during the track and tempo workouts I throw in on other days. With this said, I don't think there is a right answer here, only personal preference. Whatever keeps you motivated and gets the mileage in is what you should go with.
