In my down time I plan
Next season will be my first season doing HIM so how many should I schedule.
I believe in 'quality over quantity', so I recommend one. It helps me focus on one event, one training plan, one effort. With more than one, I find myself saying, "Well, if X doesn't go well, I can do Y," rationalizing poor efforts and decisions (e.g., sleepin' in, going out, skipping workouts, cutting them short).
It's tempting to do more than one race since you spend so much time training. I feel like I don't want to waste my fitness on just one race. However, trisooner has a good point.
One HIM and a few OLY's or Sprints to build up to it. Then use the fitness gained to race a fall marathon.

I agree on those saying just 1 HIM but definitely find other smaller races to do as well.
If you're getting married in July and want to do the race in August make sure you do your wedding planning far earlier than you think you should. I'm getting married in 2 weeks and fortunately we started getting everything planned and organized in November but we've been doing a whole lot of last minute shtuff in the last month.
Granted I don't really have the time to train for HIM anyway, but I wouldn't know where to find it right before a wedding to be ready for a half in August.

So when I am not training or working or looking at Tri sites or buying things for tri I am looking ahead. Next season will be my first season doing HIM so how many should I schedule. I figure two would be good seeing as I am getting married next July so don't want to make my life any harder than it needs to be. Any thoughts? maybe one early in the season (florida May) and one late in the season (Timberman Aug) with some smaller stuff thrown in.
