Hi,
Given the amount of posting I do, you would think I am athlete. Last year I ran half marathon in 2:15 I wasn't quite ready for it.

I haven't run since, until a few days ago.

So I am starting from scratch and I would like a marathon training plan for a beginner who does a lot of cross training (biking and swimming), If anyone has one I would appreciate it.

this is what i am using

I substitute an extra cross training day on Thursdays in stead of running.

Collie,

What marathon and when. IF you haven't been running much or at all for an extended period, it might be more beneficial to train for some shorter races and build up. If you feel your overall fitness base is there, then I recommend "Advanced Marathoning" by Pete Pfitzinger and Scott Douglas. Don't let the name intimidate you. He includes plans for maxing out at 40, 70, or 100 miles per week and for each of those he offers 12,18, and 24 week options. If that doesn't seem right, check out the Runner's World site for some plans by Hal Higdon.

I bought Jeff Galloway's book 'Marathon.' I used one of his plans many, many years ago. Since my tris are taking the lead right now training wise I have to keep my tri plan and through in extra running. But it is a really good schedule. Easy build up and there are schedules for just finishing, fat burning and then if you are running for time.

+1 on Galloway. I used him when I first started (first marathon in '03) and still use the basic concept of run/walk. Perfect for the triathlete whose legs are shot from cycling. Walk breaks extend the amount of distance, time you are able to cover.

I used beginermarathon.com 16 week plan. Only has you run 4 days a week which leaves plenty of time for xtraining.
