today was a sprint out at kalaeloa, the old barber's point naval air station. i am riding my new disc and front 50 mm tubular wheels (not new, just for me), plus using trisuit for the first time, and i got there at an insane time, about 415 for a 6 race. not too busy at that time, so i just tried to nap a bit until the bike corral opened.

swim: we've had a bit of a south swell, and there were definitely waves on the course. i started a bit back in the men's wave, and it seemed to be going ok, but i got off course a few times. overall, though, it didn't feel too bad. 13:15 for 500 meters, t1 1:05.

i got out on the bike and was riding with my feet on top of the shoes for a while, and knew that i was a while back because of the mountain bikes that i was passing. oh, i was trying my new (for me) aero helmet with the homemade visor modification, which worked pretty well. i didn't use my garmin on this race, so i just sort of went with feel. 34:44 for 11 miles, 22.5 avg mph. t2 1:06

i realized that i didn't have any pockets on the trisuit, so i didn't have any gels until the run. i usually do ok on the run, and only got passed twice, i think. 21:20 for 3 miles, 6:06 avg. overall 34th, 7th in division.

so the moral for me is that i need to work on my swim a lot, and that a disc really makes a difference.

sorry about that. i think that there was a discrepancy between the posted mileage (3.1 miles), and the actual mileage. as i said, i wasn't using my garmin today, so i depended on the posted results.

That is some serious hauling on the bike. Good for you. If you were running 6:06 miles and not 7:06 miles you should have some serious motivation to improve your swim, because you will be biking and running with your AG leaders if you get out of the water quicker.

Nice job! On the plus side, swimming is easy to improve with technical work and practicing your sighting. Way to go!

That was great! I really miss Hawaii - I wish I would have been into doing tris when I lived there. How are the ocean swims? If your swim time is that in the ocean, I wonder how fast it must be in a calm lake!

thanks for all the advice. i do really need to work on my swimming, and that's what i'll do when i get some more time. it is frustrating when i see that i'm not that far back, but am lagging so much on the swim.
