Hey all you Ironman Lake Placid athletes! I just received my volunteer assignment for this year's race. I will be at the "Boathouse" aid station that is just before the second loop of the marathon, AND 1/2 mile from the finish. from 8 pm til past midnight (gonna do cleanup too). So, if you finish anytime after 8 pm, I'll be there with the best chicken broth and Coke you ever had, ready to help you get to the finish and become an Ironman for the first (or 20th) time. I'm psyched... See you there!

Hey! My wife (Mary Lou) will be there too! Beads will be there I think. I'm racing. We Volunteered at the Boat House last year. Hope for better weather. They usually have a meeting Sometime on Saturday to explain stuff, then ask for folks to come by at noon Sunday to help set up...we did that last year and just stayed all day! Just up the street from the beer garden too!
Looking forward to a meet and greet, although I won't be staying long...and hopefully done by 8:00!

That's a great spot and timeframe! 800m from the finish. 11:55pm. Oh the drama. I can hear Al Trauwig already (NOT Jim Nance!). Oh, and flat Coke and warm chicken broth is some good stuff!

Oh...It's on an out and back, so you get to see folks four times! On the Bike course too so you'll have a chance to see folks roll in in you're there earlier...In the later stages when things thin out, they are very cool about folks stepping out to walk down to the finish to catch some of that vibe...
You can hear the finish line music...it's a bit vague but you get the bass...Unh-tiss,Unh-tiss,Unh-tiss.
Great fun!

I wish you were allowed to register someone else (presuming KellyW is signing up after volunteering). Stupid rules. I hope it's still open day-after. I'm projecting ahead one year and here in Dallas it is already 100*+ every day and I'd still have a month to go. Yuck.

See I wish I had that---I get to a race and get slaughtered because I havn't had the opportunity to train like I would like to in the heat. I even go out in the middle of the afternoon to run so I can at least get something.
Also would love to do IMCDA since it's so close and I have family and friends over there. BUT its too early in the season and I would have to be putting in long rides in cold/rain. ICK.

No you don't :) There are several of us from Dallas and Houston who train in this crap and we may all say that it sucks. I'll argue that it is very detrimental to long-term success. I just can't go hard June-September during which a quarter of the season is spent muddling through heat indices of 100*+ and consecutive 'bad air' days. My rides are short yet laborious. My runs are of low-intensity, fighting 80* at 6am. My pace on the run will go from 7:00s in January to 9:00 in July. Why do you think tri Mecca is in Boulder and San Diego - the weather.

Hey Kelly,
My wife and I and Cayman will all be volunteering at the Boathouse as well.
We should all rock out some Trifuel gear! It will be a good time.

We are going to be there at 12 pm until ?????. (We might stay until midnight)
Let's figure out about meeting up.

Anton, do you want a special beverage waiting for your run to the finish?
*wink, wink ;-)*

I don't know I loved it in Phoenix when I lived there. Although no humidity so that makes a huge differece. We have the winter problem where you CAN get out and ride (commuting to work is fine) but doing long rides suck in wind and freezing rain. So an early season race is out. I guess the grass is always greener. Here when it does get warm, it still dips down into the 60's as the lows so we get cool off during the night because of the marine air so you can still get in a good ride/run in the morning.

Beads1985, I will be there from about 8 pm on, or earlier if I can swing it. Will stay late to clean up after the final finishers, too--then go camp out in the "sign up line" for next year's race.
I don't know how to tell you how to identify me--will be wearing a volunteer shirt but so will everyone else. Tallish, skinnyish, glasses, shoulder-length brown hair, big smile! See you there!
