Swimming with contacts

Do any of you swim while wearing your contacts? I'd really like to be able to see the IM Switzerland course in two weeks :) , but know there's no way I'll be able to be calm enough to get contacts into my eyes in T1. Any suggestions?

I always swim with mine. They really shouldn't come out unless you get a ton of water in your goggles, where you would most likely stop and adjust them anyways. I just make sure my eyes are mositurized with drops so the water won't dry them out... Good Luck!

I regularly swim with contacts and it is no trouble at all as long as my goggles don't leak

I swim in contacts all the time...otherwise I wouldn't be able to see since my eyesight is pretty terrible and I'm not about to invest in prescription goggles. I just make sure to drain my goggles if they start leaking...otherwise they do fine protecting the contacts

+1 to all the comments. I always swim with my contacts and have never had a problem. Since I need glasses, wearing "Fitover" type sunglasses on the bike and run is a big pain so the only solution was to go with contacts. I only use them to train and for my events but really like them.

YIPPEE! I've missed the detailed scenery in past races because I either didn't have contacts or was leary of wearing them during the swim. I'll try it out in the pool or open water first just to be safe...thanks!

I swim with mine also. I have even had mine in at 150+ feet SCUBA dive.

I wear my contacts swiming all the time, even without goggles. I've only ever had one fall out once, but that was because it was on inside out, which I knew before hand but was too lazy to fix it. When I don't use googles and swim in a pool, I put a few drops of contact solution in my eyes afterwards to help with the chlorine irritation.

Yup...me too. Always wear 'em. However, I always make sure I have a spare pair, with a little bottle of solution, in my T1 bag if something goes awry.

Contacts here, too! If you're not using dailies, I would see your optometrist about switching over to them, at least for sports activities. 10 years ago I used to have a single pair of contact lenses that would have to last me a year or so. Using disposable lenses brings great peace of mind!

2 weeks ago I had a contact lens blow out of my eye on a descent, even through my sun glasses. Having spares in your T1,T2 bag (or even special-needs bag if your race has one) would be a good thing.

You guys are clever. It would never have occurred to me to bring spare contacts.

+1 on the disposables. Good stuff.

I've got hard/gas permeables and always wear them. Knock on wood, haven't lost one yet. But, I do tuck my goggles inside my cap as an extra precaution so that an errant toe doesn't pull them off. Especially if you've got soft ones, I think you'd be fine.

And you'll be fine anyway, bc/ you're gonna rock IM Swiss!!

Burn the eyeballs with Lasik, then toss the contacts. Each day I'm glad I had that done.

I had that done, had 20/20 vision for about a year. then I had babies, and my eyes changed and I have to wear contacts AGAIN (pregnancy changed every part of my body. From my eyes to my foot size)

I wish. I'm not a good candidate for it, though. Would kill to have it done, if it were possible!
