So today was my first Oly and want to start off by saying thanks to all who have graciously answered all my questions. I was so nervous about the cold swim and really lucked out that the weather warmed up this week. The lake temp rose quite a bit and was actually 70 degrees. It had been down to 58 earlier in the week! I had only been in the lake twice and both times swimming with my new wetsuit. That is a big help. So I kept my nerves in check...which is very hard for me since I get nervous in crowds. I kept way to the back of my wave and off to the side. the swim went great for me. I was relaxed...passed some guys who started four minutes before me! It was awesome! It was a big triangle out to the point and then to then back to the other side. Swim 0.9 mile= 32 minutes. Only third time in the lake! I know I can cut time off that since I really underestimated my ability.

Run to transition and wondering if I should add my long sleeve shirt. It was really chilly before we started but the sun was out. Decided not to and that was the right move. once again...thought I should pace myself. The bike is hard for me... I don't know if I can't get a rhythm or what, though just started biking a little last year. Had a GU and my water bottle on the bike. Avg speed 17 mph which I was really pleased with. It can only get better...time=1hr 24min

Next transition went really smooth, though I couldn't find my Gummi Bears! OK another GU. Started running out of transition to the run start. Now...who would run you down a ditch, back up and through a field to get to the street?? Water was right there and they asked me if I wanted some. I'm thinking...I need some new legs right now!! I was panting and dragging and couldn't get my rhythm. Forgot my Garmin which I use to pace myself. Man...was I slow! 6 mile run 1hr 6min...and almost walked at one point. Probably could have walked faster!

Total time 3hr 6min. Not bad for my first one. Now I know what I need to work on and what really I am capable of. My kids ran down the side of the chute with me...no this is not Ironman...and I was almost brawling! My 8 yr old is so proud of me and so am I!

Once again, thank you all for the support and advice.
Theresa

Very nice. Don't worry about the run, it happens to most in their first OLY.

Way to go ! I've only done sprint distances so it's great to hear about someone's success at the longer distance.

Nice that family was with you at the finish line - mine were with me yesterday at the lavaman sprint in NJ - they braved the rain - and I also got a little choked up at the finish. This was only my second event ever, and the first one they attended.

Congrats again !
