sorry i am confused, which program?

Under the training section of the site there is a Half-ironman training program written by Matt Lieto. I'm using it as a reference in building my 70.3 training plan this year as well, and have basically only heard good things...plus it's free
I would definitely second the weightlifting bit. As our bodies age, we need all the help we can get to prevent muscle loss which is the natural consequence of aging!
I was interested in that plan - I am wondering if a 70.3 is realistic goal for 2010 for me.
I have been working w a pers trainer for over a year and am a big believer in the weight training. I've been running for over a year, but new to the bike and swim.
I can probably devote 8-12 hours per week for 70.3 training, I have decent gear, and am 40 years old. My goal would be completion, not necessarily at any time, just crossing.
Or should I wait till 2011, and focus on oly distances in 2010?
______
Why? Many people have asked me... to test my limits ... and to push beyond them.
Hey there is usually a 70.3 in Monaco every september, that gives you 14-15 months which is over 60 weeks. Sounds like plenty of time given the amount of hours you have available, but I would let somone who knows what they are talking about really advise you. I have seen plans for 36 weeks.
I hope if you go for it , you do it :-) Best of luck

You could probably start from scratch and be ready to finish a 70.3 in 2010...so yes, from where you are you have plenty of time to build to be able to finish one by next year. I wouldn't recommend doing anything longer than a 36 week (I'd probably only do a 20-24 week plan, like the one here) focused training plan, though so you don't burn out. Up until you get into the range of the plan...well first finish up your racing for this season, then just work on base building over the winter...you'll likely have more time to focus on weight training or a particular weakness during this period too. You need to have a good solid base and then use the program.

Here goes my first topic. I'm not a big forum guy, I read and make some short comments once in a while. I finally have some advice that I think may help a few of you. I am 48 years old and improvements are harder and harder to get but I finally decided to look at the 70.3 program on this site and decided that with a few modifications it would be worth a try. Last Friday I did a 3500 meter swim workout at lunch followed by a hard 40 mile bike ride after work. Saturday I jumped into a sprint, 1/2 mile swim, 16 mile bike, and 3 mile run. I crossed the line 6th over-all at 1:17:05. Speed is the first thing to go but this was my fastest time for this distance. The program is solid and I would recommend that you give it a try. I'll let you know if I break the 4:40.0 I'm shooting for at Vineman 70.3. For those of you in my age group never under estimate the value of weight lifting. This year I have been in the gym for a half hour four days per week and am really feeling it in the swim and on the bike. Good luck and I hope this helps.
