Wondering what people do to taper for a "B" sprint race. I made it a "B" race because it is my first non-pool tri and I want to do well but I am still feeling out the ins and outs of the sport. I plan on going hard all the way through but I have a olympic later in the season which will be my "A" race. Also this tri repeats itself in Sep. so this being my first season I decided I would do both that way I could see my time and compare and contrast. This Sat I did a full brick run through with a local tri team, and now am just wondering what types of training to do this week. I did some searches but they turned up mush. I would like to swim at least two days this week (weakest discipline and want to reinforce my form), and then not quite sure about the other two disciplines. I am not sore from the mock tri and would have done something today but I am doing a 24hr shift at the firehouse. I figure I would take thur/fri completely off and just work on light carb load and hydrating. Should I fit in a couple 10 mile bikes and or 5ks/5 milers? thanks in advance

This is my taper week also. When I taper I go by time rather than distance and I cut all my workout times in half. Normally my swim takes me about an hour. So I go 20 mins to a half an hour (usually the later of the two). Rather than take days off I just go light. 30 min. bike ride on Sat. This is the week I enjoy my workouts the most. It is just a relaxing week before the race.

I think by definition you don't do a full taper for a B race. Just take it a little easier a few days before the race & go from there.

Sprint + B race = No - or minimal - taper (ie, take off the day before). That's about it. And Sprints don't really need much of a carb load to speak of. We're only talking 1-2 hours, right? You should be able to fuel that with your normal carb intake/glycogen stores and a gu on the bike.
