Which half ironman?
I would say that use the rest of this year to do shorter races and build up to a olympic and see how things go then do Lonestar....but it all depends
how long have you been out of training?
when was your last race?
whats your fitness level right now?
have you ever raced a half?
there are certainly a ton of factors that could lead you to make your decision...i'm a firm believer in ramping up training slowly (10% a week) to minimize risk of injury, but everyone is different...hope this helps
Lonestar is fast and flat- and super fun! I did it this past April.
I am planning on doing both upcoming races. I have never done Austin, but I heard it's much hillier than "fun" would describe (for me.) But as I want the challenge, (read: punishment, torture, humbling experience) I signed up for it anyway.

oh, also...there is Ironstar in Conroe (thru Huntsville state park which is very fun too), with some rolling hills on the bike. I think those are my "drive-to" 1/2 iron races from Houston.

Ok so I haven't been training and am getting back into the sport, and am determined to do a half ironman race this season (note i'm defining this season as the next year as in tell next June). My two choices are the one Longhorn Ironman 70.3 Austin on October 25th, or the Lonestar Ironman 70.3 on April 24th 2010. Think 4 months is enough time to crank it up and get in shape enough for the race or best to give myself the full 10 months tell the lonestar? I can only travel 300 miles from San Antonio which sort of limits the races I can attend so any advice would be awesome.
