Refuelling during a sprint
Assuming your muscles are fully loaded with carbs/glycogen, you really don't need to eat anything. Your fuel reserves are enough to sustain you for up to two hours of endurance competition. A carb drink on the bike, a few gulps at transitions and on the run should be plenty.
Good luck next week.

Personally, I like nothing during a sprint. If anything, a gel while on the bike. You should be loaded up by race time.
My pre race routine:
Two days before: easy swim, easy ride. Pizza and pasta dinner.
One day: Wake up early. Easy run, practice transitions. More pasta for dinner.
Race day: bagel, banna, orange, small protein shake for breakfast. Cliff bar 1 hour before race start.
No booze, no soda. Just your favorite energy drink. The morning before and the one race bottle one my bike are diluted to %50 Gatorade.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
I used to row andI I often found that before some races I couldn't keep any food down (a bit upsetting for my crewmates when I would sick up at the breakfast table/in the boat before the race). I am a bit scared that it might be the case when racing tris too....
In which case the breakfast idea is out of the window... Maybe i could try a bar before, or have banana during the race? Or is that too fiddly?
I wouldnt do it. Eat something first thing when you get up, and calm yourself down. I rowed as well, and it's a different animal. In crew, you've got nothing but time to get yourself nervous ( warmups, rowing to startline, waiting for start)
With Tris, I find that there isnt much down time. Ya get there, sign in, get marked, setup in transition, warmup, check transition stuff, startline, go!
Lean to Zen yourself out. I find I actually LACK energy at the start because I calm myself down that much (I can conciously lower my heart rate to sub 25...) If ya get yourself worked up before the race, you'll be drained by the end of it.
Also, the longest crew race I rowed in wasnt too long and you could get by on pure adrenaline... but the SHORTEST tris take ~1 hr for the elites to finish...FAR to long to be inadequately fueled
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Hi everyone!
Was just wondering what, if anything, i should be eating during a sprint. I did a few last year and only had a carb drink solution on the ride (actually the first time round I totally forgot). When i did an Olympic i had a bar with me as well as two bottles and again i didn;t finish the one bottle and had a few bites of the bar.
Racing again next weekend, what should i be eating?
