I have a question. As summer approaches , I have increased the intensity of my workouts. I am training harder in short workouts and longer in long workouts. About 3/4 through my work out I feel like I am going to fall asleep. I get about 8 hours of sleep per night and have started taking Accelerade prior and after workouts. I changed my diet about 2 months ago to include most natural, nutritious food (fruits, veggies, protein, fiber,...) I still am sleepy and have limited energy during the latter part of my workout. Any advice?

I haven't purchased a HR monitor yet. But my HR doesn't seem to drop off when I monitor it at the gym on stationary equipment. Seems to stay normal

i dont know but dont mess around with your heart.... there is a doctor some where in here maybe he can respond. you might want to get an EKG done. I am not a doctor so i'll leave this issue to someone else !
you eat clean from what you say which is good. Getting enough Omega 3's 6's and 9's ?? Are you a healthy weight ?

sounds to me that since you've increased the intensity and duration of your workouts, you might just be suffering from glycogen depletion 3/4 way through your workout. signs/symptoms of this are overwhelming fatigue and the desire to quit.

when you cleaned up your diet, did you cut back on your carbs inadvertently? you might just need to replenish more carbs between workouts with foods that have low to moderate glycemic index . glycemic index is the ability of a food to contribute glucose to the bloodstream. foods with low to moderate GI are... rice, pasta , bananas, apples, pears, grapefruit.

during exercise go for the sports drinks and gels or maybe a met-rx bar as these all have a high glycemic index and strong energizing effect.

good luck! :)

Thanks for the advice guys. I tried a sports gel mixed in my water and that worked perfectly. I was able to swim 2500 meters one day, bike 30 miles the next day, and run 6.5 miles the next. Energy was great.

Make sure you are eating the right type or proteins also. I was a vegetarian for awhile and recently started eating meat on a regular basis. It is amazing how much better i feel. Even though i was trying to eat protein, i dont think i was getting the right combination of essential amino acids before.
