tar on tires (tyres?)

A few days ago the city (finally!) re-paved the roads around my house with pure asphalt. There is nothing better than coming in from a long ride knowing that the last mile will be bump and pothole free. It's amazing!

However, I was looking at my tire today and saw a bunch of black gunk on it, with little rocks stuck in. I think that it's tar from the new roads, which probably wasn't all the way dry when i was on them. is this a common problem? These are the tires i use to race, how can i get the tar off without damaging the tire (i could just use get sandpaper but that can't be good for a tire's life expectancy, can it?).

happy training, hope your favorite roads are getting fixed too!

Our road just got repaved outside our neighborhood. Sssoooo nice and smooth! I did see little rocks stuck to my tire but by the time my next ride was over they were gone. I don't know if bug and tar remover (like what you use on your car) would hurt the tire. I honestly would just pick off the rocks. The friction should rub off the tar, I would think.

Had some tar on my tire last year. Just kept riding and friction did eventually wear off the tar.
