Funny Story

I was in my LBS last month getting some repairs done on my bike from a crash and there was a guy in there wanting to purchasing a new tri bike.

To make a very very long story shorter, this guy was looking at every make and model available. He seemed to have no cap to his price. He was making a huge deal about wanting interal cables and a few other coomponents were a must. The sales rep was trying to explain that Internal cable routing is nice but it will not save that much time unless he was riding at very high speeds. The guy still insisted on internal routing and with his other requirements, there was NO option in a standard model and that he would have to have a custom built frame. That is the way that he went.

I stopped in the LBS yesterday to pick up some bar tape and I asked him if that custom frame ever came in. The rep started to laugh becasue he said when the guy came in to get it and finish the fitting, he wanted a computer installed. He had the options of wire or wireless. He choose wire becasue of the $11.00 difference.
Maybe I am the only one that will get a good laugh out of this, or maybe others can relate. I often look at upgrading components on my ($500) Schwinn Super Sport (don't ask why) and the first thing I look at is the weight of the components. When I actually weigh over 200 pounds myself...it is not like a 5 gram difference will make me faster.

That is too funny! The guy was probably just wanting to seem more hardcore than he really was ;)

When my mechanic offered me a headset extension that was so heavy I thought it was made of cast iron. I demurred. He frowned and said, "If you're concerned about the extra 300gms, dump a few ounces out of your water bottle."

the nerve!

Hey, I weigh 203 and ride a 17.5 lb Kestrel. I'll take the free speed anytime! It's a pretty simple mathmatical equation. I prefer light and as aero as possible.

sure, animal, sure, but how much are you willing to pay to save 30 secs on 40km?

If I had any expendable income it would'nt be spent on my bike. BTW, 30 seconds is a lot of time during a race.
