Our local club ( Australian) has anywhere between 80 to 140 participants each race.We run between 8 to 12 races per season. We are looking to ramp up our timming system to an electronic mode.
After some research i have come accross some systems which offer disposable RFID tags which are placed on your race number. these tags take away the need for the ankle chip and appeals as we give members their numbers at their first race which they keep for the season. New tags if last are cheap to replace.
Can anyone :
1. recommend a company
2. Have used this system and can give pros and cons
3. Advise on the event management software...ie easy to use.
4. Any advice at all
Cheers

If they are the same as the ones I have used before, the tags are not (easily) reusable. They have a sticker part that you use to loop them through your laces, and then you have to cut them off. Just something you might want to find out more about.

additionally...if this is for triathlon...many participants only wear thier race number during the run since that's the only leg it's usually required. That is why they write all over us and give us stickers for the bike. So, having the RFID tag attached to the number will really only get good run data unless rules with race numbers are different there.

I think the ankle strap works well as far as being out of the way of changing/performing the activities. However, if you could incorporate the rfid tag instead of a timing chip on the strap, it would be less obtrusive.

Also, +1 to most RFID tags I've seen are 1 time use only...convenient for racers since they don't have to find where to turn them in at the finish
